A comment on the update "Try the Delicious Library 2.2 Beta" in Delicious Monster:
This was the error message I got when I tried to run this update. At present, because it won't transform my previous edition database, I am without a working copy of DL. Any suggestions? – Algor_Langeaux, on July 22, 2009 01:42

Well, it would probably help matters if you mentioned that you were trying to do this with an iSight. Since that all happens in the software I can see how that might seem like an easy thing to do... but I would guess that it is a bit more complicated than that.
CueCats are $10.00 and once declawed, work quite nicely, even if you don't have the ideal light levels that are required to make the iSight programming work.
Algor_Langeaux replied on October 29, 2008 23:35 to the question "Scanning other barcodes ???" in Delicious Monster:
One of the benefits of having a "declawed" CueCat barcode scanner is that it functions very much like a keyboard.
If you have an item that is already in DL2 and go to edit the data, and place your cursor in the field you want to be updated, the barcode will be read and entered directly as numbers.
I use this regularly for older books that have a barcode that has been reassigned.
So long as the barcode is something that produces a recognizable character string, you should be able to do this manually without too much struggle, provided you can find an appropriate field for it in the database.-

Algor_Langeaux replied on October 29, 2008 23:29 to the question "How do you add books without a barcode to the database?" in Delicious Monster:
Often one needs to do a manual search by ISBN number. If that doesn't work or the work predates ISBN, you need to do a title search and weed through to find the proper edition. Sometimes that fails too with rare books, and one must enter a book entirely by hand.
The way you do this is by clicking the "+" button at the bottom of the main window, selecting the type of media, and then typing in your search string.
In that window if all else fails you have the option of "add a blank book" where you can then go back and edit the information about your book manually.

A comment on the question "can I add pictures of my old books?" in Delicious Monster:
in my opinion? no. I have never been satisfied with the image quality with the isight camera, and if one is going to the trouble of grabbing an image, one probably doesn't want it to look bad... then there is the issue of cropping them, which would add another layer of unnecessary complexity. – Algor_Langeaux, on October 23, 2008 01:41
Algor_Langeaux reported a problem in Delicious Monster on October 22, 2008 17:07:
A (hopefully) minor interface tweak...I would ask that future incarnations of DL be checked for on-screen comatibility with 800 x 600 screen resolutions. I understand that it might be a small percentage of people that are affected by this, but the reality is that we are INCREDIBLY close to having this capability... but not quite. While I definitely agree that there are more important interface questions to be dealt with, I am guessing that the limitations that lock down window size would be in the nature of a tweak, rather than a rebuild or redesign.
The day to day issue is one of width, with the minimum screen width being just tiny bit over 800 pixels wide. It would be nice if we were allowed to make it just slightly smaller. Where the window limits are set now seem slightly arbitrary.
Another issue which only pops up occasionally happens when you offer an update... like you just did recently. I for one mistook the screen that popped up to announce the update as a simple announce screen, as the update options (at the bottom of the window) were well off my screen, and then went looking to try and find where I could download the new version from for quite a while until I figured it out. Given the huge amount of white space on the announce screen, one wonders why it is taller than 600 pixels.
Keep up the good work!

Not having an iPhone I cannot speak with authority, but I was of the impression that one could store and access text files using an iPhone. If that is in error, then apologies all around, but it would seem to be a fairly major downgrade from an iPod if it didn't have that basic ability.
Since in order to sync an iPod with DL, one must have their iPod behave like a removable drive, getting files off of it and relocating them would be a very minimal problem, and if by no other means than as an e-mail attachment, one might view those documents with a web enabled phone rather easily I think...

A comment on the question "Import old version to new version from another mac" in Delicious Monster:
The problem with that of course is that for some reason using the "export" function from DL1 ends up doubling the titles for the imported items. It may be possible to take a copy of the actual database over to to the computer with DL2 on it, but exporting and then importing seems to be leaving many of us with sub-optimal results. – Algor_Langeaux, on October 16, 2008 01:39
A comment on the question "echoing titles... echoing titles... echoing titles (when publishing)" in Delicious Monster:
Is there any reason that you couldn't do this, using existing fields, in DL2 entirely? One would think that smart shelves could be set up to keep things straight, without needing to resort to multiple versions of DL on your computer.
Another option might be to create a separate library on a different sign-in account for your mac. My understanding is that you can have as many independent DL2 libraries as one wants, the limitation that it is one user account per DL2 library. It would involve switching between accounts on your mac, but it might be better than trying to struggle with importing from DL1 to DL2.
In the end the work around that *I* found was to delete all of the items I had imported from DL1 and re-scan them in on DL2. Since I think the problem is on the DL1 side of the equation, I am not sure that we are going to Will interested in going back to fix export code in the old system for us...
