We have a tag cloud generator that does just that. It defaults to focus on the personal collection, but you can modify the URL to the generator page along this line:
http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/[YOUR GROUP]/tagroll and then customize and grab the javascript it creates.
I hope this does what you have in mind until the recommendation feature can happen. If it doesn't work right, let us know for sure as it's been a while since I've played with it myself.

Todd, has anybody built a Tagometer-like app that presents the tagcloud via embeddable javascript on a webpage? BTW, love the start on the Roots feature, and I can see how that will serve a lot of those functions in the future. – Allan T., on April 10, 2008 22:48

We definitely appreciate the work you've put into the group, and I understand the concern for tag consistency. One thing you could consider is to point out the tag cloud for that group in its description; this would be http://ma.gnolia.com/groups/[YOUR GROUP]/tags and ask people to come close to what's there, when possible.
Adding a recommended/other's tags feature is very much dependent on the search engine, and it's among the most commonly-requested features so it's high on the priority list. As for exactly when that will be ready, we don't know. It's been a complex change all the way through, but we'll do our best with it.

Sorry Todd. I'm not trying to be difficult. I've just spent a lot of time setting up my group on Magnolia, mostly because I wanted them to learn from each other's tags while they are bookmarking, so that the group has some convergence on a common tag language. I didn't realize this wasn't supported in Magnolia. Any idea when it might be - sounds like its reliant on back end functionality (search engine)? – Allan T., on April 10, 2008 22:21

Todd, does that mean the purpose of Magnolia is not to be a social bookmarking tool? Without the ability to play off of others tags while you are bookmarking, it makes getting convergence of tags very difficult. – Allan T., on April 10, 2008 21:58

Can't see other's Tags on PostIs there any way to see other people's tags of the same URL, similiar to "pick from Recommended Tags" on De.licio.us? When I post, I can't see any tags from others to choose from.

This is a little annoying, but I can understand the base design. You might want to add some notification/confirmation function, a la facebook or linkedin, if you add a contact. I don't think the manual two-way contact approach is going to scale ! – Allan T., on April 10, 2008 21:16

Hi Allan,
This is certainly frustrating. In order to invite other members to a group, they have to count you as a contact back. We do this in order to prevent people from using group invitations as spam. However, I can see how this makes this process difficult, and we'll review our design.
In the meantime, those people you would like to invite should add you as a contact on Ma.gnolia.
Allan T. asked a question in Ma.gnolia on April 09, 2008 18:22:
Why Can't I Add New Members to a Private Group?Groups does not seem to be working correctly, I want to invite several of my contacts - already defined - to a group. When I hit "Add Members" the contacts don't show up. If I enter their email addresses, Magnolia notifies me that the first one is a member, and asks to add them to contacts. However, they never receive an invite email, and are not added to the group.
The group is set to "Private"
Firefox 2 on Mac, if that helps.
