I would prefer a way I could keep my feeds on, but still have them protected :) My recommendation would be to add a hash to the feed URL. This would prevent other people (who I haven't given the link to) from accessing it.
i.e. "webcal://www.tripit.com/feed/ical/people/username/j028hs0k082/tripit.ics"
or something similar. Thanks for the reply.
Chris

Hi Chris -
Thanks so much for bringing this up. You can turn your location stream off at any time on you 'Feeds' page. http://www.tripit.com/account/edit/se.... Based on your feedback we're looking at ways to make this more clear in the UI.
Thanks again,

It looks like we need to update some of our legal-type documents. Currently, we say this in the Terms of Service:
In addition to viewing the Content on the Get Satisfaction Service, in the future you may be able to access and use the Content on the Get Satisfaction Service for certain other purposes through the use of Get Satisfaction's application programming interfaces ("APIs"). Get Satisfaction has not released APIs yet, but these Terms of Use will be updated when the APIs are available.
I'm sure one of our honchos can give you an update in short order...

Attribution requirements for using API?Are there attribution requirements associated with using the Get Satisfaction API?

and it's out! go to your email and notifications page, scroll down to the companies list, and you can now select the option to get notified via email for every topic and every reply in your company space. there's also the option to just get all of them via rss. hope that helps!

Lane, thanks for the feedback and sorry for taking so long to respond! I just got your newsletter and that's what prompted me to check the site and see this comment you posted (don't think we received a notification of it?).
Anyway, totally hear you and agree that outputting the itin content by email is a solid idea. It's not that we don't want to do it, but rather this is one of those things we just haven't gotten around to yet. Our dev list is really long and we're working on the highest priority items first, but this one hasn't made the cut just yet... it's getting close, though!
In the meantime, while it's not an elegant solution to the problem, I do want to offer something that might help. Our TripIt To Me feature allows you to request your itinerary content by email. So if you send an email to plans@tripit.com with this text in the subject or body -- get trip [date] -- then we'll respond with a text based version of your itin, by email. Date should be something like 3/15/08 (or if your account prefs are set to European format then use 15/3/08) and should match the date range of one of the trips in your account.
You'll now have your itin information in an email that you can take with you on your mobile device. You can also forward that email to friends so they can see your plans without having to log into TripIt. Hope that helps!

for the record, this would still be an incredibly useful option that i would urge you guys to consider. right now "share this trip" just emails a link back to tripit, which pretty much everyone i've ever used it with describes as some variation of "incredibly annoying."
i worry that you're thinking that if you do this, people won't use the tripit site, but rest assured, that isn't the case if you take the long view. whatever short-term gains you might get in terms of clicks from those messages is totally undermined by the frustration people have in being forced into an inconvenient tunnel that has negative value to them and only marginal value to you.
give out the trip information via email, nicely formatted and consistent, ALONG WITH a link back to the right page on the tripit site, and you'll probably get less traffic but the traffic will be more committed and interested (and, needless to say, less annoyed.) plus, the more exposure people get to your well-formatted emails including flight destinations and times, the more likely they'll be to engage with tripit in the future and over the long-term. brand and loyalty building!
even facebook figured this one out eventually, and started including the text of messages sent via their mail system inside the email notifications they sent out. do it, pretty please...? my traveling companions who now find me incredibly annoying will thank you, i promise.
not to mention, when i'm in an airport and offline and have no access to your site, having this information in email is pretty much a no-brainer. which is why right now i have to cut and paste it from your site to send it to myself and everybody else; which isn't really what you intended, is it?
