Woah.
@viamptor, Deb is part of the linux community, too. Saying things like "its so easy a cave man could do it" and "I find it hard to believe asus customer support said any of those things........ make your own conclusions folks............" are not encouraging or supportive. I bet if you'd punctuated your comments and offered a bit more explanation you coulda been really helpful to Deb.
For instance, to item 1, a more helpful response might have been "woah! Asus customer service really said that to you? They're completely wrong. Not only can you install new software on your Eee PC, it is so easy that a caveman could do it (if that caveman knew Synaptic syntax ...) Check out this URL. I know that sometimes command line install tools are intimidating but it is really not hard. Promise."
See how much more supportive that sounds? Makes it clear that it is Asus customer service that is wrong, honors her anxiety about command line tools, and points her in the right direction (towards a workable solution).
As a member of the Linux community myself, I'd really like to see novices treated with much more respect and trust when they are first finding their bearings. Even if she was just trolling, setting her straight in a way that helps the next reader is easy enough.
PS. I'm underwhelmed by this site myself. Let me compose whole comment and then tell my I'll have to log in?
