The only thing that prevents you and me from simply passing through walls or falling through the floor to the center of the earth's mass are electrostatic forces. They are strong enough in nearly all situations to prevent things from simply passing through one another. Inside a black hole, however, these forces are broken by the force of so much mass so close together. We have no real idea what's inside a black hole because it defies these typical situations where the electrostatic forces are king.
so, your trash can will support your iPod Touch pretty well, unless it's inside a black hole.
I'm saying you should ultimately throw away your iPod Touch.

the bottom of your trash bin will support that iPod Touch pretty well...assuming that the electrostatic forces between the subatomic particles in the atoms that make up the molecules in both the trash can and the iPod Touch exist...which in most cases they do, with the exception of inside a black hole.
