I agree. But I've been updating via SMS. Since AIM just released their AIM TXT mobile Text app.. you can sign on AIM via text messaging commands, and send the Ping.fm AIM Bot your update. But I do think a SMS number for ping like that of Twitter's would be very helpful as well. Since not everyone has AIM.

i was gonna suggest the multiple ping.fm accounts thing (that's what i do) but wasn't sure if it was kosher :D. – jon, on August 21, 2008 16:27

>>Update via SMS (text message) - I might just be missing this functionality?
We are a free service with no ads. Based on our current income of $0/mo, we can not afford the cost of SMS. This will be one of the first features we add once we can cover the cost of it.
>>Allow filters to work with a subset of services. Example, I might want to update status on Twitter, Myspace, and Facebook, but *not* LinkedIn.
The custom triggers allow you to do this. Perhaps we need more documentation explaining this process. http://ping.fm/triggers/
Method: Status Updates
trigger: personal
click "add trigger"
check/uncheck services as desired.
Let me know where you're having a problem and we'll look into adding more how-to on this.
>>Support for multiple accounts. Example, if I have two Myspace accounts, four twitter accounts, etc...
There are a few reasons we have not done this yet. We plan on adding this in the future, but there are other things of higher priority right now. You are welcome to set up two ping.fm accounts in the meantime.

Glad to have it sorted out. – Ancyru, on August 21, 2008 11:54

Indeed, my bad! :) I did noticed the Jaiku icon underneath the Ping.fm dropdown - but I didn't really noticed Twitter wasn't shown because of that. Thanks a lot! – Dinis Correia, on August 21, 2008 11:52

I have mentioned this already, unfortunately it hasn't been followed much. http://bit.ly/20e7XF – Ancyru, on August 21, 2008 11:12

The thing is, you don't end up with a double post. If you have Ping.fm selected you would see all the services lined up underneath to be sent to. Now if you have Twitter selected as well as Ping.fm, you will notice that Twitter is removed from the services lined up. It's already smart enough, there is no double posting. – Ancyru, on August 21, 2008 11:11

Well, I *love* like the idea - however, I now feel that the options for some services should be redefined.
When I hit 'Post', all my services are selected - say, Twitter and Ping.fm. But since I also want to have my Twitter account on Ping.fm, I would end with a double post.
I think services that allow you to post updates should now have an option to disable the post feature for that specific service.
(Am I making any sense?)

Ancyru: Personally, no. But most people would get charged for those, so I expect it'd make a difference. I can't consider last.fm until it's available for sms use from my market, which is north america. It'd be a neat personal tool, but not something that I can recommend, since SMS has become such an important means of updating the microblog sites. – Kive, on August 21, 2008 08:42

jon: I looked at that, but it doesn't seem to have the capability to build a trigger, say #personal, that only posts on a subset of the available sites. As an example, I use LinkedIn for work use, and Myspace and Facebook for personal use. I don't want the same messages going to both - the existing filters don't appear to fit that. I *could* use one or the other, but if I'm having to post my message to four different sites manually, didn't I just eliminate the usefulness of last.fm in the first place? – Kive, on August 21, 2008 08:41

i have unlimited texting on my phone, and even though i have email and web access on my phone, it doesn't work in my area (parts of vermont), so txting ping updates from my phone is paramount for me, otherwise, it's useless as i use brightkite (which DOES do this from my phone). – vtknitboy, on August 21, 2008 03:09
