A comment on the idea "Timbuk2, CNN and Eco-Fashion" in Timbuk2:

Patti - Thanks for the link. The article was interesting. I actually have one of these bags. I think Target would be better served (and I'll tell them this too) to work an agreement w/Timbuk2 as well. 1) There bag is good for shopping, but isn't as versitile as anything Timbuk2 makes and 2) they don't accept plastic bags for recycling at all their stores. – AndieO, on May 14, 2008 16:30

    Timbuk2, CNN and Eco-Fashion
I just finished reading the Eco-Fashion article at CNN.com. This article mentioned Timbuk2's effort to create a custom bag made from recycled plastic bags. One of the prototypes had recycled Target bags, and Target asked them to pull the bag because of licensing efforts. The article implied that Timbuk2's idea to have consumers send in plastic bags for recycling into custom messenger bags has been put on hold indefinitely due to licensing issues (and presumably the costs around getting around these).

I am a long time Timbuk2 user. I have 3 bags, the oldest of which I'm getting ready to replace because I've finally used it to pieces. I would love to be able to send Timbuk2 some of my plastic bags to be used to create a custom bag. I'm also a Target junkie so most of my plastic bags are from there. I imagine most shoppers that still have unrecycled plastic bags have most of them from 1 - 2 vendors. And while many of us are trying to switch, not all of us are there yet (although Austin, Texas is looking at following San Fransisco's footsteps of banning the bags).

Timbuk2 - PLEASE PLEASE don't abandon this idea. This is a fun, innovative and environmentally-friendly idea that I think a lot of us customers would enjoy.
