A comment on the question "Can you stream to a Squeezebox?" in Spotify:
No I don't work for Napster. I am just a consumer who wants the best value for money. If Spotify were to support the Squeezebox, I'd probably just stick to their service because of the excellent iPhone app. However, it seems clear that this won't be any time soon, so I'm off, but I'm not saying that I will never be back. I have no allegiance to any company, and I will select the best option for me at any time. I will also probably tell others about my choice, in places like this board. I'm sorry if that offends you. – Andrew McDonough, on October 08, 2009 15:26

Thanks Andres. It's great to know that you guys are listening. It's understandable that you've been busy, given how quickly the service has taken off, and there are more people with iPhones than Squeezeboxes. I just hope that you don't forget about us and get around to supporting our device eventually. Please keep us updated if there is any progress made.-

Of course they don't have to do anything, but I don't have to pay my Spotify premium subscription, which I signed up to in order to try out the iPhone app. I'm going to keep paying for now, but if Spotify don't support the Squeezebox soon, I might be tempted to switch to a supported service like Napster, particularly if they release their own iPhone app (which I believe is inevitable). I don't really know much about the Sonos, but in the case of the Squeezebox, the libraries are already there for Spotify to use, so Logitech don't really need to do anything to get it working. Spotify are the ones who need to build something (and it sounds like they are), or if they open their API properly, the community would probably build something in no time.
I think Spotify is a great service and overall I'm very happy, but there are are few things missing that if built, would lock me in for the long term (this and scrobbling from the iPhone app). Hopefully the activity on this thread will be noticed. – Andrew McDonough, on September 17, 2009 10:24

If you were doing this, you might as well just skip the Squeezebox/Sonos step and plug the iPhone straight into the line in of your amp. The point of a Squeezebox/iPhone plugin, would be the ability to browse the Spotify library via the hardware those devices offer, in the case of the Sonos, the remotes, and for the Squeezebox, the remotes or the nice high contract display, which you can see from across the room. – Andrew McDonough, on September 16, 2009 15:10
