All I can tell you is that MediaMonkey is able to see the grouping field in my mp3 files as well. I have an entire library of files with tags in iTune's grouping field, and both iTunes and MediaMonkey are able to see the edits in the field.

I use the grouping field in iTunes (which MediaMonkey is also able to see and use, BTW) to help me tag and create smart playlists.

It is the main thing keeping me from using SongBird.
