Stephen Collins replied on June 13, 2008 15:38 to the idea "merging existing location nodes" in Brightkite:
I was about to ask for this as well, then found this thread. I've got several places now where I've identified a location by address, or just by street, as I wasn't searching for the right thing. Then I find it later as a named place, or I refine the location details.
We need several options:
- when doing an address only search, the results should pop up known nearby locations with a message like "We've found the locations below near that address? Were you looking for one of these?" Of course, if the answer is no, you can go on, but you could also pick from the results.
- being able to merge two locations with an option that says something like "Merge this location into... (more refined location)". On doing this, the less detailed/desired location disappears and checkins become a part of the more detailed/desired one.
Thanks!

So does that mean that you'll consider reading iPhone Open Application Development and writing one for jailbroken phones in your free time? – Thomas, on June 09, 2008 23:37

Sorry, Brady, but I (and hopefully many others) will not be upgrading to 2.0 until it's jailbroken. I disagree with a centralized and controlled repository. – Thomas, on June 09, 2008 23:00

Hi Thomas.
Similar to Loopt, we have leveraged the iPhone's location ability in our native iPhone application. The native Brightkite application will be available for free at the launch of the app store :) – Brady, on June 09, 2008 22:43

Just because everyone's going to mention it, Loopt announced an iPhone app at the stevenote.
10:36 am User profiles show a log of where the person has been and the photos they've sent in. It's easy to call or text them as well. Works with Loopt users on other platforms and will be available for free at the launch of the App Store.
10:34 am Next -- Loopt, a location-aware social network. The app displays a map with pins representing where your friends currently are.

We are working on ways to deal with the accuracy issues of the current iPhone. A GPS enabled iPhone, when/if released, will be a better user experience. – Brady, on June 09, 2008 17:24

That's silly, what about people who are traveling? It could definitely tell if you're at an airport, and such. Turn on your phone when you land, and auto check in. As well, if it knows your last location, it would definitely help with the future "check-out" feature, so people would know that while you're not where you last checked in, you're traveling to your next check-in point. – Thomas, on June 09, 2008 08:09

A comment on the idea "Checking *out*" in Brightkite:
There should be somewhere that you can describe where you are, as well as giving the location. With the advent of cell phones with internet connectivity, we're not always just sitting somewhere with an address. So you could put "Stuck in traffic" in "Chicago", or "On my way to Dallas" driving through "Little Rock". – Logan, on May 30, 2008 17:49

the 'future checkins' thread lets you schedule the check-ins as well as the check-outs. for instance id like my work schedule to be in bkite and check me into the office automatically. – donpdonp, on May 29, 2008 17:09

Thomas replied on May 28, 2008 02:37 to the question "Support for OpenID" in Brightkite:
+1 comments are useless and do not add to the discussion. They also create "spam" e-mails. Just use "I have this question too", it will add to the number of users asking for OpenID. You can also throw your OpenID into the list at Demand OpenID.
