andygeers asked a question in Mozilla on August 18, 2009 16:59:
URL nouns not recognisedI'm trying to use commands like the built in "tinyurl", and it seems it often doesn't recognise the text I'm entering as a URL and so doesn't offer "tinyurl" as a verb suggestion. If I type "tinyurl http://www.google.com/" then it comes up as an option, but if I use other domain names, or type "tinyurl http://www.google.com/<anything>" then suddenly the "tinyurl" suggestion disappears.</anything>

The speed seems totally fine for me now, a lot faster than 0.1.8 at any rate – andygeers, on June 26, 2009 14:54

Poor suggestions for searchesWas just trying to do a Twitter search for some text in 0.5pre2 under Firefox 3.5b4, and figured I could just type "search twitter <query>" to get going, but as you can see from the attached screenshots the suggestions I was given were very poor. It didn't help that I had some irrelevant text selected on the underlying page, but even deselecting that didn't really improve matters.
I guess strictly you need to type "search with X <query>", but I think it should offer that even if you just type "search <single_word_that_is_a_known_search_engine> <query>"
</query></single_word_that_is_a_known_search_engine></query></query>
andygeers shared an idea in Mozilla on June 26, 2009 08:39:
Previous suggestions shouldn't vanish whilst you typeWith the new asynchronous suggestions in 0.5, if I type, say "twitter This is a test", the "twitter ..." suggestion keeps vanishing for every keypress, only to reappear a moment later once the suggestion has loaded. I think that unless you are pressing backspace/delete/paste, it should assume that the previously offered suggestion is still valid until the point where the new set of suggestions has loaded. It feels a bit silly at the moment to see it keep flashing when there's not actually any change.

Nothing happens if you hit enter too quicklyUsing the 0.5 preview in Firefox 3.5b4, if I press Ctrl+Space then type a command then press enter very quickly before it's had a chance to load in the suggestions then the Ubiquity window closes but nothing happens.

Ubiquity 0.5 preview unusably slowI'm trying out the preview of Ubiquity 0.5 with Firefox 3.5b4 and it is unusably slow, locking up my computer for extended periods whenever I try and open up the Ubiquity window and type commands.
It seems to be related to suggesting commands and previewing the results. e.g. if I select the URL in the address bar and open up Ubiquity and start typing the "tinyurl" command, it hangs for a second or two until a few more suggestions appear and it then becomes responsive again. If I select a random bunch of text and start typing "twitter" it hangs for several seconds whilst it figures out what command I mean, then guesses I want to "search twitter for" and which point it hangs again (to preview the results?). Only eventually after I've had time to type sufficient text that it works out I really do want to twitter it rather than search twitter does it become responsive enough to actually type my twitter message.

Ubiquity Twitter command picks nonsense username by defaultIf I select the address of the page I'm currently on, and type "twitter this" into the Ubiquity window, by default it tries to use the selected text as the *username* to twitter as. http://www.google.com/ makes for a pretty funny username!-

Ubiquity twitter command truncates messages containing "as"If I try and write a "twitter" command message that contains the word "as", it truncates the message at that point in the command preview. It doesn't offer any alternatives to allow me to treat "as" like a normal word. I assume it's a magic Ubiquity keyword, but normally in those cases you get offered choices as to what you mean.
