Hi Nancy, thanks for the question!
At Jaho we use 1.8 oz of coffee (same grind as drip) which is about 6 tablespoons.
To start you fill the bottom chamber with water up to the "5 Cup" mark.
Next you insert the filter in the upper chamber, making sure it is centered after you use the hook in the chain to snap it in place. Now you add the ground coffee to the upper chamber and insert it in the bottom globe but leaving the top piece sideways so it doesn't seal the opening.
Next you put the TCA-5 over the heating element and once the water starts boiling you fully insert the top piece so the rubber seal closes the opening. (Don't apply too much pressure as it will make it hard to take out) As the water rises, you want to start stirring the coffee so all the grinds are saturated. Once there is almost no water in the bottom chamber (you want some water to remain in the bottom globe to minimize the chance it will break), you turn down the heat to about 25% (if you're using the alcohol burner or candle that came with it you can just leave it be).
Stir the coffee again once all the water is in the upper chamber & again at 40 seconds. At about 50 seconds you remove the heating element & the coffee will vacuum into the bottom chamber. Now you simply remove the top piece & serve. Feel free to adjust brewing times & grind to your taste.
Hope that helps & let me know if you have anymore questions!
