ashughes set one of pvh's replies as an official response to "Library Management" in Songbird
ashughes marked one of Velenux's replies in Songbird as useful. Velenux replied to the question "How to add single songs to Songbird?".
ashughes replied on December 17, 2008 22:27 to the question "Displaying and navigating the iTunes Music Store?" in Songbird:
Songbird does not handle the iTunes music store directly. Songbird passes the process off to iTunes. I agree with you that this process is one step too many, but I can confirm that this is the way Songbird works currently.
Of course, it doesn't make sense to integrate with the iTunes store for two reasons:
1. Apple would never let us
2. Songbird runs on Linux, and iTunes is not support on Linux
This is a good feature idea though. If this feature ever were to be implemented, it would probably be best served as an add-on for Windows and Mac users.

ashughes replied on September 30, 2008 01:24 to the problem ""Install GStreamer" dialog box doesn't close." in Songbird:
This makes sense because it is looking for a gstreamer library for playback. It can't find it, displays the warning, you close the warning, it goes to the next track and the process repeats.
In 0.7.0 GStreamer is not turned on for Linux. You need a bunch of GStreamer packages for full support.
The following packages are required:
* libgstreamer0.10-0
* gstreamer0.10-x
* gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
* gstreamer0.10-esd or gstreamer0.10-alsa (depending on your audio setup)
* libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev
* libgstreamer0.10-dev
The following packages are recommended:
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
* gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly
* gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
* gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3
A comment on the question "Why does Songbird 0.7 not support PPC Macintosh?" in Songbird:
Apple no longer makes PPC based devices and is dropping PPC as a supported architecture for their next version of OSX.
Sony PS3/IBM Cell is it's own architecture. It is not PPC-based. There is an emulator for PPC platforms provided for SDK purposes.
Anyway, I understand not everyone is going to like or agree with our decision to drop "official" support for PPC. It was a hard decision, but we stand behind it.
We appreciate your feedback. Feel free to check out the community build. – ashughes, on September 29, 2008 13:58

ashughes replied on September 28, 2008 16:15 to the question "Album art and ratings from Media Monkey??" in Songbird:
The best way to get the functionality you want into Songbird is to create an add-on for it. We completely agree with you, unfortunately, there is more important work that needs to be done before this can be worked on. It is not uncommon for us to take the functionality of an add-on and put it in the core. iPod support and Album Art both started out as addons.
A comment on the problem "Songbird's Memory Leak" in Songbird:
You are right. It is not "optimized" for any OS. Songbird is cross platform and works about the same on all platforms.
Everything you are reporting has been reported many times on get satisfaction already, has been witnessed by ourselves on our performance machines. Hence, it is a known issue which we are working towards resolving. Unfortunately, performance cannot be fixed in one release. We are committed to performance improvements in each and every release. This has all been stated before, however. In fact, I have mentioned it a couple times in this thread alone. – ashughes, on September 28, 2008 16:10
