It uses Java pretty heavily, AFAIK. I would not be surprised if you saw your CPU spike to 100% while using it.

All good suggestions for the browser side of Songbird. Since we are a media player first and a browser second, the media player side has been getting most of our attention. I do not suspect this to change as we march toward 1.0. As a media player, we need to give the media player end priority.

Of course, these issues you mention are not specific to the Mac either.

Rescanning of libraries is not yet implemented but will be in a future release. In the meantime, delete + reimport is the correct method.

This is not really related to this topic...however, Songbird, like all browser applications can have a custom Homepage set. Since it is built on Mozilla, the process is exactly the same as Firefox 3. I suppose. But it's not how the Mozilla architecture works. The .db file is part of the profile. To move it away from the profile directory is to do something the architecture just does not expect and does not support.

You could conceivably do what you are proposing, but there are no guarantees that it will work.
