Athena replied on October 13, 2009 18:32 to the problem "bug in bugzilla.songbirdnest.com -- doesn't send out email" in Songbird:
Twice, have tried to signup to report a bug, and neither time has the email shown up.
No -- it isn't a spam filter. I checked there...so don't know why my email isn't coming in
Maybe if you are registered on this site, it should auto register you @ bugzilla so we can use the same email & pw?
would make some sense. If people don't ever use bugzilla -- no biggie, but if they do, it's all setup to work.

Athena replied on October 11, 2009 05:25 to the idea "Greater transparency in the bug process... Less private bugs" in Songbird:
Can you explain what is 'private' about songbird?
What intellectual property is in songbird that isn't open source?
It appears be a rebrand of firefox with a music player built-in -- and music players -- open source ones are less than a dime a dozen (free).
So what is this "intellectual" property thing that we are supposed to imagine is a reason for keeping us from logging bugs.
It appears this is just a closed source product that designed to sap our resources and generate a fake community feel that the songbird creators can feed off of and sell to advertisers.
It's really a shame, because I'd like to help make it better and report bugs and make suggestions, but all we get is a 3rd party "wiki-like" forum Get Satsifaction" to whine on -- which has NOTHING to do with songbird -- it's just a place where us users can go and whine while the songbird employees and just ignore us and any problems we have.
Zero accountability -- no bug tracking. No problem reporting.
Nothing.
It's distasteful.

bug in bugzilla.songbirdnest.com -- doesn't send out emailI cannot get an email from bugzilla.songbirdnest.com.
I've typed in my email address about 3 times over a few week.s
I have gotten email from other bugzilla interfaces
including bugzilla.{novell.com,w3.org,mozilla.org}
I can only assume that you have a problem with your email OR
you are deliberately blocking anyone from signing up to log bugs as it's easy to ignore
people in the getsatisfaction forum.

Yup -- ditto here -- I've reported it to last.fm numerous times...they don't care...they want you to log into the website. I can do that...but scrobbling in xmplay or songbird...no go.
for some reason my win-media player doesn't scrobble either.
they tell me to use winamp to get scrobbling to count -- winamp must have given them more payola...

I guess I was suppose to say my android isn't showing up on my ipod widget?
What gobbledegook!
Can't report this as a bug, as bug database doesn't send email.

I've a similar problem -- I just put them in an unreadable directory for now, and expect to add them when appropriate -- then delete them out of my library later...
sorta a crude way to do things, but...its a crude player...based on an inefficient (though fast for its inefficiencies) web browser)...
I say ineffeicient, because they use no OS standard libraries -- makes it nice for them porting to different platforms, but bad for users.
If SB, FF, TB used standard libraries, they'd all use about 1/3rd -1/5 the memory they use now and be about 100% faster (on top of their current speed!)...AND,
if running all three (or 4 if you use lunascape), they would all SHARE the common libraries! so each wouldn't require the same libraries in memory and if they libraries are already loaded, they wouldn't need to be reloaded off disk -- making them MUCH faster!....
Wish they could combine common libs and use them as such...would benefit all 4 (et al? webkit (prism)) based platforms...-

Athena replied on September 19, 2009 19:14 to the idea "Perhaps a little less would be more?" in Songbird:
How is songbird compiled?
Is it compiled / optimized for Pentium-III and above?
Is full optimization turned on(-O2, + some specials, for final releases).
Most of the problem is in the GUI -- not song play or even reading the library...those seem to be ok...but the GUI is sluggish and seems to miss many mouse and key inputs....
I have a Dual-Core-2 @ 3.2GHZ & 4GB (3GB seen by XP) machine with
with 2 15K-RPM SAS drives in a striped RAID 0 -- Graphics card is
Nvidia GTX260 max core (216 core procs w/768MB dedicated Graphics ram).
and SB is sluggish?!
SB also limits itself to 1 CPU...I have 4 so there's an obvious reason right there.
put music on one core, graphics on another , USER interaction (input) on another, and core processing on another...much can be done in parallel)...
