A comment on the question "Beginning (or ending) balance from last reconcile is incorrect. What do I do?" in The Infinite Kind:
MD could be made to do that. I guess what they would have to do is add whatever change you were to make to the account's "initial balance". I personally suspect, however, that it might cause more confusion than it cleared up and probably violate some accounting standard.
I remember having some fun times trying to track down an adjustment I made in Quicken where you can change reconcile balances to an extent. Trying to find the missing/changed transactions in a busy account can be time consuming.

avp2 reported a problem in The Infinite Kind on March 16, 2009 01:17:
Account Info Update BugJust noticed that, if you change the account number of an on-line setup/activated account, it is not updated for the on-line connection in MD until you go to the the on-line banking setup menu function and redo/redefine the bank setup. Seems like changing it in the Account info (via account edit) should change it in the on-line access function too. Even importing an OFX file with the correct account number and selecting the matching account when MD asks will not change what account number is in the on-line access function.
What happened to me was that I did a "direct connect" transaction download, noticed that I got the transactions of a different account because my number was wrong, manually downloaded an import file for the right account, corrected the account number in the account edit function, did the import open selecting the right account, but MD still showed the incorrect transactions from the direct access. In other words, MD did not show the transactions in the import file I told it to open and did not let me know that. I opened the import file with a text editor to verify it was correct.
Thinks were fixed when I redid the online setup for the account. Good thing I new what the correct transaction/s were because it was a new account.
Oh yeah. Using 2008r3 (631).

Comparison, I guess, between different investments. If you set up as I mentioned, you can then do an Income report selecting the categories you want which will give a pie and bar chart comparison. Also, if you set all your income categories as children of a parent category, you can just look at the category list.
If you want an ROI comparison, maybe one of the 3rd party plugin's can do it.

I now have three banks and Discover doing direct access connection without a problem. I have learned to ask for Quicken support as most of the support people will only (probably by bank policy) talk about that or Money. I have found any support for Quicken works without problem.
I also have not seen any accuracy problem in downloading QFX or QIF files and importing.
If you want to see the data in a downloaded file, just open it in a text editor. You can compare this to what you get from a direct access and what is correct. Then you have some specifics to ask about.-

You can use the "find" function to find (and print) transactions for specific payee's (the "description" selector) in all accounts or a single account.
You can also see all transactions in a category via the register view for the category; double click the one you want in the edit category tool or home page account list.

I would have expected "customer ID" to be your on-line account ID too. I notice though that if I choose manual setup for either a CA connection or "all other states" in the MD drop down menu (it adds it to the menu after it has once been selected in the "new connection" list), I get a routing number, ID and pw entry box. I do not have those yet. I assume you tried yours?
Maybe BofA support can help with what they want for the customer ID.
You might also try the CA FI # in a manual setup for the "all other states". I found that there was a mixup on the Capital One OFXhome listing so it is possible BofA has a mixup too.

avp2 replied on February 15, 2009 22:34 to the problem "Duplicate transactions resolution?" in The Infinite Kind:
I just ran into this problem and was able to fix it by deleting the transactions already in the register that were being duplicated by the download match and hitting "enter" for the downloaded transactions.
I could not see any difference between the ones in the register and the ones being downloaded, but the "delete before enter" process has worked, at least this first go with the problem.
avp2 replied on February 15, 2009 22:21 to the question "Online transaction date when matched with dowloaded transaction" in The Infinite Kind:
I also would like MD to modify the register date, if necessary, to match the date the bank says the payment is made.
I have noticed the dates are within a couple of days for ACH processed payments. Those the bank sends as a check usually have the date the check clears which can be significantly different than the due date you set in the MD on-line payment.

Maybe this will help you set up a manual connection using your on-line password, ID and account # and B of A routing #.
If so, let us know. I just applied for a B of A account and will be trying to set it up about next weekend. If I get it going, I will post here.

There does seem to be some problems with the way MD matches, and records matches to, downloaded transactions.
I had not seen the matching problems others have reported until just the last few direct connect downloads I did of my Discover card. Now, I see the opposite of what you report in that I get duplicate register entries if I click record and do not notice it is already in the register, but not matched by MD, and, if I delete the downloaded one (in favor of one already in the register), MD will show it over and over after downloading as a new transaction. The workaround is to delete the transaction already in the register and then do a "record". However, the matching algorithm should be good enough that you can record/match an already entered transaction without problems.
avp2 replied on February 14, 2009 20:22 to the idea "bank balance" in The Infinite Kind:
If you click "reconcile", the current/reconcile balance will be what was downloaded.
However, I think your idea of showing it after a download/direct connect without having to go to reconcile would be pretty nice; maybe in the transaction matching area or, in the case of an up-to-date account, in the window that says the account is up to date.

avp2 replied on February 14, 2009 19:41 to the question "Does MoneyDance support ING accounts?" in The Infinite Kind:
I fired my old Q2006 for mac and, although there is a listing for ING direct in the Institutions list, my ING direct account setup only allows "web connect". OFX Home also only lists ING direct canada.
It is true, the Quicken institution page at Intuit now says direct connect is supported for Q2009 for mac and Q for Windows. However, I just called ING direct (USA) support and they say the Intuit page is wrong and they still do not support direct connect for Q or OFX.
