Categories confused with accounts when their names match. When importing from Quicken, I noticed that many accounts were loaded as categories. I did not pay much attention to it at the time. Recently, I expanded my personal non-taxable income category to separate sub-categories, one for each of the retirement accounts that "feed" these (so that I could track the account interest/gain separately). Then I noticed that any interest deposit always generated a matching amount payment in the account register. If I deleted the payment, the deposit was deleted too so that an account could not be reconciled. The fix is to change the name of the category for the deposit to something that does not match the name of the account. I then also noticed that the "edti" window for categories says "account".
This seems like an big bug. Categoies are not the same as accounts, At least, their transactions should not be confused by the program just because the account and category name is the same.

Seems like this would be a good/nice function to have built-in to MD's account editing. One of the reasons I got tired of Quicken was having to delete and rebuild accounts when all I wanted to do was change an account type; sometimes for experimentation sometimes because a bank messed up a type field and that messed up direct connect and import download.

On-line Payment Status SuggestionWould be nice if on-line bill payments that were entered, but only in outbox or not at bank yet, were marked with "send" in check # field, or somehow, to show that they had not gotten to the bank for processing yet. Be nice to be able to just enter on-line bill payments to be made in the appropriate MD account register and "do" transmit payments instead of having to do them one at a time in a separate window. This is one function for which Quicken is more convenient, even though their direct connect itself is much slower than MD.

On-line Payee Nicknaming ProblemMD on OS X 10.4.11. Since there does not seem to be a way of giving a payee a "nickname" that will not show in on-line sent payments (Quicken has {nickname} for this) and but you have to select a payee in on-line bill pay window before you can do an edit, it can be hard to find the right payee to use or edit. For instance I have about 10 insurance payments all going to the same payee, but with different accounts and addresses. I was able to go to the bank web page recently to clean up things, but figure it will be a problem again.

MD Open Category Window Close CrashMD on OS X 10.4.11. Just imported over from Quicken and have the problem that MD will close/crash every time I go to click the red close window button on an open category window. Relaunching MD starts it back exactly where I left off without any work loss that I have noticed. However, it is an annoyance. It is repeatable every time. I have not tried it on my WinXP version yet. Will post if it does it there too. Sequence is select menu>edit categories, double click any income or expense to open its window and then click window close button.

I have a similar problem with a two accounts at a band that download with the same account name. One of the reasons I moved from Quicken was that it became so inflexible in downloading with regards to manually overriding auto setup up info. Text editing works, but is a pain. Why not just provide the capability for persons (with the knowledge) to override bum info in a download or initial setup? MD could show what it thinks is right and add a "manual override" function with warning to be careful.
FYI, the bank I was talking about acknowledged about a year ago that they build their download file wrong in the case I mentioned. but have yet to fix anything. It is probably close to the bottom of a big "to fix" list.

I too am not sure what this would be, but it reads (functionally) like something I wanted to suggest. That is allow mixing of income and expense categories under a "parent" category so you can see a running total on the categories page. And similarly, allow putting any type account under any other "parent" account (except maybe a "base" account) so you could see a running total on the home page - this function could be used, for example, to show all retirement investments and CD's under a parent asset account, while the similar category function would enable a better view of category type cash flow.-
