Avram replied on August 10, 2009 22:23 to the problem "Photoshop CS4 constantly freezes and then won't quit!" in Adobe:
Yeah, this was *very* frustrating for me as well. Rebooting OSX every hour in order to edit PSDs was not very fun.
The good news is, I figured out how to make PS CS4 stop crashing/freezing! It seems that this annoyance was due to a few bad plug-ins.
To fix, I made a backup of /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS4/Plug-ins and then removed all plug-ins except for those in the directories "Extensions", "File Formats", and "Import-Export". I figure if I need any of the other plug-ins, I can always just add them back in the future (and hope they aren't the offending ones)
Hope this helps!
Avram reported a problem in Adobe on July 14, 2009 17:38:
Photoshop CS4 constantly freezes and then won't quit! Here are my specs:
Software:
- Photoshop CS4 version 11.0.1
- OS X Leopard 10.5.7
Hardware:
-Mac Pro
-2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors
-5 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM Memory
Photoshop constantly freezes on me, especially when I'm using the "Save for Web" tool. This wouldn't be so bad except that when Photoshop freezes, I can't force quit it or even kill it using the command line, plus it severely slows down all my other apps and I keep getting the spinning beach ball. The only way for me to use PS again is rebooting my computer... extremely annoying.
I've tried force-quit from the dock and also from the alt-command-esc menu. When those didn't work I ranps -afx | grep Adobeand then I see:
501 1613 121 0 0:00.00 ?? 0:00.00 (Adobe Photoshop )
501 1614 1613 0 0:00.00 ?? 0:00.00 (AdobeCrashDaemon)
501 1935 1714 0 0:00.00 ttys000 0:00.00 grep Adobe
So I triedsudo kill 1613,
next I triedsudo kill 1614,
sudo kill -KILL 1613andsudo kill -KILL 1614don't work either.
I ran an integrity check on my hard drive using Disk Utility and no problems turned up.
I'm really at my whit's end here - please help me!
