I go this response from Apple this morning and it seems to have worked... I'm back buying songs:
To purchase from iTunes Store, you'll need to make corrections to your account information. To do this, follow these steps:
1) Sign out of the iTunes Store by choosing Sign Out from the Store menu in iTunes.
2) Visit Apple's My Info website:
http://myinfo.apple.com
3) Choose your country and preferred language. Then enter your iTunes Store account name and password and click Continue.
4) Choose Address Book from the menu on the left. On the Edit Address Book page, look at your shipping addresses at the bottom. If you have multiple shipping addresses, remove any out-of-date or duplicate addresses by clicking Delete. Also, make sure the state or province field is filled out correctly for each address. To edit an address, click Edit.
5) Now choose Phone Numbers from the menu on the left to look at your phone numbers. The area codes should be in the area code fields and the phone numbers should be in the phone number fields. If an area code is missing, or if it is in a phone number field, your account information may not save properly.
6) Make any other necessary corrections, then click the Save Changes button.
7) Click Log out in the upper-right corner.
When you make your next iTunes Store purchase, you will be asked to review your billing information. At that point, you can change your information or simply click Done. After that, you should be able to purchase items.

Hopefully this will help.

No. I still haven't found a means of resolving the issue. I think someone in a customer service department is my best bet, but it seems as if there is no way to contact someone who could look at my iTunes account and at least TELL ME what 'changed.' – Axey, on June 27, 2008 05:45

Yes, you undoubtedly will be able to use the iPhone with other carrierts, but not until Apple and AT&T's exclusive contract is finished, and that won't be for awhile. Years.
I had your same problem, but I sucked it up and did it. I had to pay Verizon an early termination fee even. That hurt, but I'm happy now. I rely extensively on my iPhone. I love it. I'll be buying the new one when it comes out. I can't wait.
A comment on the discussion "Why won't Apple listen to me??" in Apple:
it's not a "goofy acting machine". It's actually the monitor itself and costs $600.00 to repair. There are currently 700 other people with the same issue on a petition to Apple. I included all the info about the petition in my original post. – Supergirlkeywest, on May 18, 2008 13:07

well hello? They'll fix your machine for $$$$ if it's out of warranty, needless to say. They won't charge you if it is under warranty. I believe that they should repair all their products for free if it has a manufactures defect, which clearly, this issue is.My computer was out of warranty for a month before the first line appeared down the screen, end of story. – Supergirlkeywest, on May 18, 2008 10:24

Axey reported a problem in Apple on May 18, 2008 05:31:
iTunes won't let me buy music.iTunes refuses to let me purchase music from the iTunes store. When I attempt to buy a song, I keep getting taken to an account information screen after I've put in my password. The iTunes account page says my information has 'changed' but everything looks correct when I look it over. Add there is no prompt as to WHAT changed. WTF?
The account has worked previously. I had not changed payment method prior to this problem, but changing payment method as a response to the problem accomplishes nothing. It doesn't work whether I'm paying through PayPal, or paying directly. Bloody annoying. Add that there is no link I can click to get some sort of interactive customer support, either. I don't want to skim through 400+ forum posts. I want to buy some music.
A comment on the problem "Sprint PCS bill never delivered to me in timely fashion" in Sprint:
Yes, this is what I do as well. Like you, I suspect it's a deliberate corporate practice to grab every little penny in the way of late charges. – Melanie Archer, on May 17, 2008 17:59

Article on Diesel SubarusThought this would be interesting to share. Diesel Subarus. If sales take off in the U.S. this could be a great opportunity to convert a favorite *new* car (as opposed to 1982 diesel Mercedes) to biodiesel fuel.

Yeah, they are sometimes late with my electronic statements, too. I hate to say it, but sometimes I think companies do this stuff deliberately to rack up extra revenue from late charges. As a back up, I set my online banking account to remind me when my bills are due each month so I can get them paid regardless of whether Sprint decides to goof around with the electronic bills. I've found that the Sprint website will still reflect my charges when I check it. If I know my payment is due at the same time each month, I check the website right before I do the bill pay and I can get the total charges in before a late fee kicks in.

iPhones that aren't AT&T?Will iPhones ever be available to carriers other than AT&T? I like the iPhone, but I don't want to switch carriers just because I like a phone. Add that I don't want to start messing around with unlocked phones because of software updates screwing up the phone.
