Is there a way of disabling or limiting "refreshes" on a per site basis? It took me a while to narrow it down to Thumbstrips as this problem still occurred with Thumbstrips hidden. How are you retrieving the bitmaps? That seems to be the major bottleneck.

I have a similar issue with resizing - making it smaller leaves grey space (the resize bar enlarges so the thumbstrip is made smaller but your browser never gains any space) but the thumbstrip always disappears fully when closed (regaining all browser space).

Also running on a Mac (Leopard and FF 3.08).
