Hi Ben,
Although Less Accounting doesn't allow you to input your data twice, it is designed to pull the data from various directions in order to achieve the same goals as double entry. So if you use all the reports and all the numbers match, then your books are in good order. If the numbers don't match that means that you might have an error in your data.

Hey Ben, double entry accounting is an old practice from the times of paper back ledgers. Less Accounting isn't meant to take away your need of an accountant at the end of the year. But to provide a quick and painless system to keep your books up to date. Currently we do not track assets and depreciation. Why? Because you don't need to both with that stuff until tax time. We feel its more important to bring a product to market that focuses on your everyday accounting needs, making accounting quicker for you, giving you time to make money.
Also many "serious businesses" use LessAccounting, in fact currently we're tracking over a billion dollars thru our software.
Ben Metcalfe asked a question in Less Everything on July 20, 2008 02:18:
Will this do double entry? My accountancy-minded co-founder would like to know whether Less Accountancy will do double entry. She says that only very small businesses (independent contractors) should account in the way it seems to be set up (cash accounting).
I was just checking whether we had missed the features for this in the app - general ledger/transactions/fixed assets. If not, how should we reflect depreciated assets in LessAcc'ing?
The concern at our end is that we can't otherwise write off assets (computers, etc) over time unless we do it outside of the accountancy software.
If this isn't something currently available, before we look elsewhere, is it something in the roadmap?
Thanks!

Bryan, that's great that you haven't had an issue with you headphones but if you want to see it, I have an email in which v-moda admits to me there is a design flaw in the headphone that they are very well aware of and trying to fix. I'm on my 3rd pair, so is a friend at work. Since your headphones are over a year old, they are no longer under warranty. So who is going to be the little bitch when your POS headphones do fail?
Us? V-moda? Or perhaps you? Idiot.
I'm starting to wonder if V-moda has some sort of PR firm to handle this stuff. Based on their incompetence in creating headphones, customer service and pretty much everything else about their business... I wouldn't be surprised to find out they found an equally crappy PR firm that would hire people to make posts like above.
By the way, the headphones don't even sound good. It sounds like you are listening to music underwater. Get the Bose.

well everybody, looks like Bryan solved the problem! He's never had one problem in over a year! I guess everyone's real problem is not faulty headphones. We are all just being little bitches! Thanks for your insight Bryan!! – al, on July 09, 2008 05:17

Teresa replied on July 04, 2008 15:01 to the question "wonderful water wanted" in Whole Foods Market:
Hello Ben, thanks for the add-on question!
The types of containers we use at Whole Foods Market in our bottled water vary depending on the product.
Some of our products are packaged in glass, some use clear PET and a few are packaged in a plastic that looks frosted called HDPE.
The leaching question is a difficult one to answer because the jury is still out on this issue. I can give you the most up to date opinions about the various packaging methods we use for our water.
Glass is considered the most stable and reusable of the containers. Glass containers can be reused a number of times without fear of leaching or possible ill effect.
PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic is considered the safest plastic. Containers made from PET are not intended to be used multiple times (refilled) or stored for long periods. For individuals looking for a reusable container, there are many good ones on the market.
HDPE (High-density polyethylene) is the same type of plastic used in milk jugs. Whole Foods Market offers a gallon water jug made from this material. As with PET, HDPE is not intended for multiple uses and should not be stored for long periods of time.
Though there is no health risk if these products stored in either PET or HDPE are used as recommended above, the water inside can taste plastic like if stored in heat for several months.
My personal motto is "when in doubt, toss it out!" If your water smells like plastic, you should probably dump it.
Take care, and Happy 4th of July!

Wow! Thanks Teresa, I'm so pleased people from Whole Foods are here!
Can I ask about the bottles themselves? What kind of plastics do you use, and what issues do you consider to ensure contaminants don't enter the water from the plastic in the bottles and containers?
This issue has been discussed a lot in the media, recently.
Thanks,
Ben

I, too, purchased a pair of V-Moda headphones (at an Apple Store; for use with my iPhone). Within a month of purchase the right in-ear headset ceased to function. I followed the V-Moda warranty instructions to the letter and within a few weeks they mailed me a replacement set. That replacement set worked for what seemed like an even shorter period of time. It amazes me that they can charge $100 for these things. In terms of durability, the V-Moda product is even less reliable than the original Apple headphones (which suffer only from poor sound quality).
I am going to return the headphones under warranty and hope for the best. However, my mind is made up -- I'm switching my brand allegiance to Bang & Olufsen (the only other company I know of who makes high-quality earsets with a built-in microphone).

My V-Moda Duo headphones for my iphone recently became defective. These are the specific steps I took to process V-Moda's warranty.
1). Completed online contact request, with "Warranty" as the topic
2). Provided all the requested warranty information in the body of the message portion of the online contact request.
3). Submitted the completed online request as instructed
4). Waited for V-Moda's "immediate" email reply as mentioned in their "Warranty" policy - it did not come..."immediately"
5) Found the company phone number on this web site - called phone number, talked with customer service. They indicated that their reply/response is not automated and can take up to 24 hours to send out. THIS IS IMPORTANT because you NEED the TICKET NUMBER that they provide via their reply. They ALSO EMAIL A WARRANTY FORM with the TICKET NUMBER, which must be filled out and RETURNED WITH THE DEFECTIVE HEADSET. The customer service agent said they will change the wording on their "warranty" page to reflect that it can take up to 24 hours to receive the email with the ticket number & warranty form.
6). Sent requested information, proof of purchase, completed warranty form, and V-Moda headset to their Hollywood address via Federal Express.
7). Customer service agent said their turn around time is 7-14 days from time of receiving defective headset.
Hope this helps shed some light....(and NO, I don't work for V-Moda, or have any personal interest in the company, or any family members that do!). Just wanted to make some steps a little easier for those that might walk this path in the days ahead.
Embrace the Journey,

Hi Ben, that's exactly what I was hoping for. I know that you're a small team, and would certainly never bitch at not getting the problem solved as soon as I mention it. But simply knowing that it is in hands, and good hands makes it a million times better! thanks for taking the time to show me that this is a great human service as I like them. Take care. Hey Otir
Sorry if we've not got around to answering your post here on GetSatisfaction as quickly as you hoped. We are still a small team and we're all doing the best we can.
I've made sure that the dev team is aware of this, and I believe it syncs up with an existing known issue that the team is working to resolve.
Thanks, Ben

I buy a TON of bass-freq headphones (I find them to be BETTER than the vibe ones) and one set busted on me.
I bought them at Amazon and just sent them back to the address on the packaging. I didn't follow any instructions on their website as I never interacted with them on their site and so didn't go to check.
Anyway, long and short is that I got a replacement set in the mail about 2 weeks later. I guess this doesn't help move the conversation on (I can't give you specific instructions of what I did) but just wanted to address the balance a little as I am a satisfied customer in this regard.
I hope the rest of u get your earphones soon.
