Aubrey, I got the runaround for five months from the dealer, from Ford, from Sync, and from Apple. They finally came up with this solution, which seems to be working so far - hopefully this will be a permanent fix and it won't stop working again.
Download the latest version for your ipod touch from I-Tunes. It cost me $4.95. Then, disconnect your battery, wait a couple minutes, then reconnect it. After doing both of these things, try your ipod touch and see if it works.
Good luck!

Ipod Touch Does NOT work with Ford Sync! Don't waste your money!!Even though Syncmyride lists the ipod touch as a device that works the the Ford Sync, many people have found that this isn't so. Learn from me and DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY buying Sync for your Ford vehicle if you are planning to use an ipod Touch. Changing the usb port won't help nor will getting a Sync version upgrade.
Ford says the problem is with the ipod touch. Apple says that there is nothing wrong with it - that the problem is with the firmware that Synch uses. The dealer says that there's nothing that they can do and that they're not responsible. I have been in contact with all three numerous times and I am basically out of luck.
So, learn from my mistake! Instead of paying $500 for a Sync system, just go to Radio Shack and buy an inexpensive device to play your ipod through the radio.
My phone doesn't work with it, either! So, what I've got is a $500 radio that I paid extra for that can't be fixed and they won't give me a refund for it!
Barbara replied on September 18, 2009 17:55 to the problem "iPod connection to Ford sync system disconnects itself." in Ford:
The Ford reps are posting the continuing double talk that I've gotten from Ford, Sync, and my dealership. I doubt that anyone else has been as pro-active as I have in trying to either get the Sync/ipod touch issue resolved. Here is the truth everyone: The Ford Sync system does not work with the ipod touch. Ford says that it is an Apple firmware problem. Apple says that there is nothing wrong with the ipod touch and that the problem is the ipod touch uses a different technology and the people who created di not take that into account, therefore, it it not possible to use an ipod touch with Sync. I have been going around and around with my dealership for four months now.
The real kicker is that someone from Ford called me and told me that Ford's protocal is that a rep from the dealership is supposed to actually show a customer how Sync works with the customer's devices. If this had been done I wouldn't have purchased a car that had the Sync system, I would have purchased a car without that option and saved $$$$. I would simply have bought a gadget from Radio Shack to play my ipod touch through my radio.
Since Ford is not letting people know that all devices will not work with Sync, and the dealership isn't telling potential buyers, lots of people are really unhappy.
Yes, in case you're wondering, I've talked to people at Ford's Customer Service numerous times. I've also talked to Sync my ride numberous times, and have also talked to Apple's Customer Service.
No one will help. If your ipod touch or iphone is not working with Sync, stop driving yourself crazy trying to find solutions. There aren't any.
