A comment on the problem "Content not pulling from remote services" in chi.mp:
Facebook produces RSS feeds for the Notes and posted Links from every account. (One for status updates, too, if the account is configured for it.) If Plaxo and FriendFeed can export them, it shouldn't be that hard for chi.mp – bauserdotcom, on April 12, 2009 03:31

Please re-read what I said: "the conversion happens AFTER you hit submit."
The conversion to a tinyurl happens AFTER you submit the tweet -- you're not supposed to see it in the input box.
You're misunderstanding what tinyurl is being used for here. It's not to keep you under the 140 character limit -- it's just for aesthetics. You have to meet the 140 limit before the conversion, because some device (cell phones) are going to cut you off at 140 no matter what.

A comment on the question "Does Twitter allow duplicate user names?" in Twitter:
mdy's probably right. I've seen this before -- those @ messages are meant for somebody with a username SIMILAR to yours, and the sender is just confusing 2 names. I bet if you go to the page of the person sending you messages, you'll find they're already following somebody with a similar name. – bauserdotcom, on April 28, 2008 05:18

The "pharmaguy" twitter page has a bunch of tinyurl links. You understand that the conversion happens AFTER you hit submit, right?
Also, twitter only makes the conversion on links above a certain length. Some of the links you're including in tweets aren't long enough to trigger the automatic conversion.
crystal's reply to "Can I evict a stale user from a username I really want?" was just promoted to the most useful! bauserdotcom and 2 other people think it's one of the best replies.

It's not an official Twitter feature -- it's just a code some people use to add keywords to their twitters:

bauserdotcom replied on April 09, 2008 01:01 to the problem "Can I use Twitter with T-Mobile?" in Twitter:
Twitter's support team always gives bad answers to this question. I suggest ignoring anything they say. Anyway:
Are you using T-Mobile's prepaid service ("T-Mobile To Go")? If so, your problem is that Twitter uses a "shortcode" (a phone number shorter than 7 digits) for SMS tweets, and T-Mobile's prepaid service blocks all SMS messages to and from shortcodes. (In other words, it's T-Mobile's fault, not Twitter's.)
There are two workarounds:
1) You can verify your phone (and, afterwards, send tweets) using Twitter's UK number, which is currently: +447624801423
However, you still won't be able to receive tweets on your phone, and SMS to a UK number costs more than domestic SMS.
2) Tweet through an e-mail-based service like twittermail.com or ping.fm (T-mobile lets you send SMS messages to e-mail addresses, if you didn't know.) Looks like twittermail can even be set up to e-mail tweets to you (your phone's e-mail address is based on the phone number).
bauserdotcom replied on March 25, 2008 19:41 to the problem "I can't set up my phone with Twitter; is my phone supported?" in Twitter:
Hey Crystal, the international number you posted works, but http://help.twitter.com/index.php?pg=... gives users a different number -- which used to work, but doesn't now.
Did you knuckleheads CHANGE THE INTERNATIONAL NUMBER and not remember to tell the users?

bauserdotcom replied on December 23, 2007 17:39 to the question "maybe the twitter code for blogs is mistyped." in Twitter:
You are correct. TEXT is not a valid attribute for the SCRIPT element.
Properly-functioning browsers will completely ignore that attribute (because that's what browsers are supposed to do with attributes that aren't valid). On the other hand, all browsers (except maybe crazy experimental ones) use javascript as the default scripting language, so the script works, because browsers assume the script is a javascript.
But you're right; Twitter should fix that, because it'll mess with some HTML editors and all good validators.
bauserdotcom replied on December 22, 2007 15:54 to the problem "T-Mobile is blocking Twitter" in Twitter:
Wrong.
The Telecommunications Act is about phone companies blocking other phone companies (and, by extension, phone numbers served by other phone companies). Phone companies are allowed to block short codes because they're not real phone numbers. It's a weird loophole, but it's legal.
It's time to drop the pseudo-legal arguments about neutrality, because they don't apply. Even the guy who started this noise admits he was wrong -- he just wasn't principled enough to admit in any of the forums he spammed.
