1.2 has received a number of tweaks under the hood which should result in far smoother play.
As to the OP's question, there is an "exact" correct moment to tap, which is programmed into the track by our music wizard, and that's the point when the bubble 'pops' on the line. That'll score you 150 points, but there's a buffer on either side of that (for early tappers and late tappers) with lower score values.
CyborgOne replied on August 09, 2008 18:35 to the question "Downladed tracks won't save!!" in Tapulous:
Same here, in many (not all) cases. It merely stays on "Downloading..." forever - until I go back Home, or quit & relaunch the app. Other attempts work perfectly, though - showing the "Play on [difficultiy level]" indication very quickly after initiating the download.
Note also that if the song has not been successfully downloaded, it may still appear in the list of songs available. But, attempting to play it results in no music played, no notes coming down the screen, etc. - and no ability to go back to the main menu; you must force-quit the application.
My network connection is known to be good, it just seems that some songs are not reliably available. Perhaps there are sporadic issues with the Tapulous servers?
CyborgOne replied on August 09, 2008 18:34 to the question "When precisely is the perfect moment to tap the beat?" in Tapulous:
Thanks, afregoso - but that was part of our point: There are several problems with the behavior of recognizing the correct point to tap - even without the issue with audio being unsyncronized. Note that the little explosion when you tap is sometimes displayed even when your tap is far off the "optimal" time. The visual cues and "certain number of notes" are exactly the data we're looking for confirmation regarding, as well.
As far as you're statements & questions:
- max score (150, 300, or 600) is given if the dot is exactly intersecting the line when you tap (...and is actually recognized at that point)
- apparently, 10 successful hits to increase to 2x, another 10 to increase to 4x (but again, "successful" is currently a problem in several cases)
- no idea on the "line charged" displays; I agree that this needs to be clarified by the developers
(See the other threads regarding "stuttering", etc. for related concerns)
I'm *really* hopeful that these problems will be addressed for the 1.2 update. This is a GREAT game, but the problems apparent due to the inconsistent scoring, unsynchronized audio, etc. make it frustrating to play.-

maybe someone could just answer the question?
I think that the best time to hit the bubbles is when they are exactly halfway across the white line, no matter how long your lag me be behind the audio. If you noticed there are slight visual clues, such as a sort of electric explosion to let you know when you have hit a note correctly or the line that the bubbles travel on that electrically charges after you have hit a certain amount of notes correctly and turns back to nomal when you don't get a note just right, obviously when you miss a note completely it flashes MISS. What I would like to know is when exactly you get 150 pts for the bubble, how many notes to a X2/X4 multiplier and how many to get a line charged?

Tap Tap Revenge is unplayable to me. I cant make it through even 1/4 of a song without the onset of extreme stuttering/lag/jerky movement. I have deleted the app and reinstalled, I have deleted and restored from itunes, I have spoken in a brash manner in the direction of Tap Tap while it was running on my phone. Nothing works.-
