A comment on the question "Flash Video Crashes Firefox All The Time" in Mozilla:
Will -- I agree with you. This is a seriously large problem, but think the question is whether or not this an Adobe issue. Flash does not crash IE in this way. Just Firefox. I don't use Safari or Opera and would like to hear from users of those browsers if they too are having these issues. I would think that with all the Firefox users crashing on Flash, and the "crash reports" being sent to Firefox, that someone would have figured out why this is happening. Now it doesn't happen on all Flash modules -- I've been told that it may happen when a Flash module is inserted in a non-standard way and the code messes up Firefox. But I create Flash video myself and have had the crash happen on my own work as well, but not consistently (one time the module loads fine, another time it doesn't). My guess is that there are two or more conditions that have to exist for the crash to happen, but who knows what they are. Again, this does not seem to be an issue with IE. Maybe Adobe and Microsoft have some secret agreement??!!
Of course, when advertisers realize that many Firefox users never see their spiffy Flash ads, maybe a fix will be found. – BeeCee, on November 15, 2009 17:57

Jayshah -- I posted this question almost a year ago. Since that time I have seen no answers from this board or anywhere else, other than using Flashblock to disable Flash on most sites. Oddly enough I just installed the latest FireFox update 3.5.5. (and Adobe Flash Player) and am getting more crashes from Flash than ever.
I hate using IE, but I'm getting seriously ticked at Firefox. – BeeCee, on November 10, 2009 14:17

I disabled the flash plug-in for almost a day and did not get any crashes. When I enabled it again, the crashes began. As a test, I then disabled the JAVA plug-ins, but I still got Flash crashes. I have not tried flashblock, because I don't want to have to click things all the time to enable it. Anyway, still a mystery as to why I keep crashing.

I've disabled a number of add-ons and plug-ins and for the past few minutes anyway, I'm not crashing on the usual pages. But this is erratic, because I think it depends on certain ads, etc. I'll see how things go over the next day and report back. Thanks again for your voluminous and speedy help. I hope this moves us toward a solution.

I was able to get rid of the RealPlayer ext, but there are several I'm unable to delete or uninstall. But they ARE disabled. In any case, I uninstalled Flash (fully) and reinstalled it. NY Times home page crashed immediately. Here is the latest dump:

Sorry. Here they are. I'm not sure what to do about the RealPlayer Browser Record -- it says it is incompatible with the current version of FireFox, but it is also disabled and FireFox won't let me "uninstall" it. Same goes for the plug-ins below that say "disabled" -- no way to "uninstall" them

BeeCee asked a question in Mozilla on January 14, 2009 21:16:
Flash Video Crashes Firefox All The TimeMy Firefox 3.0.5 is crashed often by a Flash video -- usually, but not always, this comes from a Flash advertisement, but this is happening regularly with such sites as the NY Times, Yahoo! Finance, etc. and is a real pain. How much of a pain? So much of a pain that I am actually considering (Heavens Forbid!!) going to IE -- that's how bad.
It's a shame because Firefox is so much faster, cooler and feature-filled, but the Flash problem just won;t go away. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash. I have searched out every old version of it on my PC (running XP) and deleted it. But no change. By the way, Flash does NOT crash on IE, only on Firefox.
There must be a fix. Firefox tech help keeps saying it is an Adobe problem. If so, why isn't IE affected??
