Google Talk on Blackberry quirk

I use Google Talk (v2.0.43) on my Blackberry (Verizon 8130 Pearl v4.3.0.97) and the majority of the time when I send a direct message I have to send it twice before I get the confirmation. What's up with that?

I have the same problem but it's in Firefox. it lets me in with IE7 and Safari.

I'm running WinXP-MCE.
