Ben replied on March 20, 2008 04:40 to the problem "Why can't I login to twitter on socialthing" in Socialthing:
These are the types of bugs I loathe... I would almost rather you were still having the problem, so that I could track it further. I'm glad it's working now, and yes, you're probably right about it being on Twitter's end. Twitter's website version and API version (the one we use) don't always seem to be in sync with each other as far as whether one is down for maintenance, etc.

If you could please post your twitter username as well as your socialthing username (note which is which please). We seem to have run into a rather elusive bug (has only happened on 6 out of 12000+). What's happened is that it authenticated correctly, it just didn't assign that particular Twitter account to your socialthing user account. Also note that it didn't assign it to the wrong person, either, so your privacy is maintained.
I'll take care of this as soon as I have your usernames.

It appears 2 of micronauta's friends happened to receive invites after he signed up. These invites could have come from anyone who sent an invite to their address. I can assure you we have no access to your email address book, as we don't ever ask you for credentials belonging to an email provider, and as Matt mentioned earlier, none of the API's provide email addresses when we request user info.
Moving forward, please know that we hold the user's privacy above all else. We are a trust-based service. If we were to betray that trust, even once, in the most insignificant way, we fail you as the user, and will not survive as a company and a service. Quite frankly, I like to use the site myself, and would like it to stick around :)

Ben replied on March 19, 2008 09:30 to the question "twitter direct messages in lifestream: private, right?" in Socialthing:
Yes, of course. At socialthing, user privacy is of utmost importance. Your direct messages are viewable only by you. If your account were "protected" on twitter, only your twitter friends would be able to see your tweets, etc.
In the future, we plan to make it abundantly clear precisely what access we gain by the provision of your credentials on these external services. Also, what data we access and how exactly we plan to show that data to both you and the other socialthing users you've given access will be transparent.
