A comment on the question "Purchasing obselecence" in atebits:
You need to pay attention.
1. The App store limits how upgrades can work.
2. Tweetie 2 is re-written from the ground up - it is a new, completely seperate app.
3. It's only $6 dollars. How do you afford an iPhone if you're that much of a miser? – Ben Seven, on October 14, 2009 09:40

I like your second idea. It would be nice to have a way to switch between accounts that is more organic, like the desktop app - I originally slated your idea of having a pref to remove the accounts button but seems like it's actually a feature from Tweetie 1 that has a lot of demand in another thread!

Ben Seven asked a question in Google on April 23, 2009 11:21:
Log into Google Profiles with GAFYD account?OK, so Google Profiles is new - but why doesn't it support logging in with a GAFYD account right from the start? I want to be able to customise my profile, but I'm not going to make a gmail account just to be able to do this.

Alex,
An otherwise helpful post, if you actually read through the comments here you'll see that this hack will be overwritten whenever Tweetie upgrades. and that someone has already recommended a GUI wrapper for this process called Dockdodger (which one might as well use if doing this hack between upgrades).
It's amazing how many people effectively 'butt in' on a conversation by not reading to see if what they're bringing has already been said. Similarly folk seem to not bother checking for their feature request before filing it as a new one - which is why there's about 7 different suggestions for growl support for Tweetie (a lot of them on the same page, too!).
A comment on the idea "Hide dock icon" in atebits:
Please, no more OS X purism. It's entirely useful to have 'background apps' as Chris so excellently puts it, and have them not cluttering up the dock or Cmd-Tab. Progress is not a bad thing.
We're also not arguing that it should be without a dock icon entirely - we'd just like to see a preference checkbox. Or should there not be one so Apps can perform exactly as the almighty Jobs intended? – Ben Seven, on April 20, 2009 18:54

A comment on the idea "Hide dock icon" in atebits:
The point is, it's not that much of a headache for the developer to add as a preference (even though this hides the Menu bar).
The .plist hack is not ideal, because every time the app updates it gets overwritten and you have to do it again. Forcing a user to dig about in the app contents is a usability failure. – Ben Seven, on April 20, 2009 15:18

A comment on the idea "Hide dock icon" in atebits:
I'm confused - there are plenty of Apps that run with just a dock icon and not a menu bar icon, but still have access to the bar menu. Why couldn't Tweetie also have this option? – Ben Seven, on April 20, 2009 12:40
A comment on the idea "Hide dock icon" in atebits:
This is never the optimal solution. An end user should not have to hack about with removal apps or editing .plist files - it should be an option as there's many different ways of using the OS, dock and menu bar depending on your own preference. – Ben Seven, on April 20, 2009 11:58
