Ben Wallis asked a question in Cliqset on March 10, 2009 16:03:
Facebook?Hi,
How come there is no Facebook service?
It should be pretty easy with Facebook Connect etc. Facebook are also attending SXSW so maybe you could chat with them there.
I was working on a Facebook application to display all of my social networks - but a cliqset application on Facebook would be even better.
Thanks,

I just used the Ping.fm Google Gadget to post something but it did NOT get posted to Twitter. Didn't seem to change my Gmail status either.
It DID get posted to Facebook though.
It was definitely all working a few days ago.
Regardless of what the problem is (or whose fault it is), Ping.fm should be more transparent and should provide feedback.
If Ping.fm was unable to post to a particular service, it should tell the User which service.
Where possible it should also offer a likely reason for the failure.
In those circumstances Ping.fm should state if and when it is going to re-try the post to that service. Perhaps make it a user-configurable option? Try again, Give up.Maybe an option in Settings to auto retry 3 times then give up (email if final attempt fails), etc.
Thanks,

Looks to me like it's just not displaying the error message.
Iif you try to set your username to a username that is already being used by someone else, then you just get dumped to an empty Profile screen with no feedback or error message.
After trying some different usernames I got sent to the proper Profile screen with the green feedback message telling me that my profile was updated.
Ben Wallis shared an idea in Ping.fm on February 17, 2009 17:22:
URLsI don't want URLs I post via Ping to be automatically turned into ping.fm URLs
It's a useful feature but I would like it to be a configurable option. A default could be set from our Settings page, but should be able to be specified for each Ping, if possible. E.g. The Ping.fm Google Gadget could include a checkbox to indicate whether URLs should be ping-ified.
The reason I want this is that sometimes an URL gives an indication of where it goes - but ping.fm URLs are always obscure.
For example, I wanted to post my twitter username to my Facebook status. I posted only the URL but it was changed to a meaningless ping.fm URL. I would have preferred if my friends could see at a glance that it was a twitter link.
I guess it would be even better if we could choose from several shortening services (when a Ping contains links). I like http://bit.ly and http://tinyurl.com
Thanks!

"There is no secure way to establish an OpenID session through Ping.fm"
Why would we want to? Wouldn't that undermine the whole idea of OpenID?
Doesn't it work like this?
Users sign in at their OpenID provider's site
Ping asks the provider site if the user is authenticated
If so Ping lets us use the service (Ping)
If we then post to e.g. identi.ca then identi.ca uses takes same OpenID provider URL and asks if the user is authenticated
