Bengo asked a question in Yola on November 14, 2008 06:07:
Advice on deploying nofollow tags?I have over 2000 links on one of my sites, a directory. I didn't put nofollow tags in when I installed them, and since many of the links are in columns (see http://psychedelictreehouse.com/a_D.php ) I am wondering if I can capture the HTML, go through pasting the two tags, and restore the pages to normal. In other words, a work-around against going one by one? Any suggestions? I am aware there may be no such option, and have a Plan B.

I think it's an impressive job under difficult circumstances and a good example for us all.
You know what I'm going to add: don't forget to diversify your sources. Swap links with someone who makes pre-fab treehouses (I saw a banner for such a thing today) and find blogs where you can leave meaningful comments that happen to include your trade. Find forums where you can see and be seen and people will ask about your banner ad. All that stuff piled up to little visible effect for months, then ZOOOM, our comic LilNyet.com took off, and there on the analytics were traces of all those things that I did.
Again, congratulations on your prowess with Googs.

Glad to see your accomplishment. Well done. My previous business survived many up and down cycles. When things were slow, we cleaned the shop, put away tools, organized things. We prepared for the busy season that always returned sooner or later. I bet this down spike lasts shorter than most people thing. – Bengo, on November 09, 2008 20:53

I assume you mean the Webmaster tools tag. Confusingly, you only need a portion of the code Google offers: the long number/letter sequence between the quotation marks. Install that in the appropriate box on Synthasite and see if it verifies.
Example (shortened)
"ABRH64Dj888NMKKJ" You would select and copy A through J. Don't worry if there are other symbols in the mix. Don't copy the "".

Hey Boomer,
I don't know because I didn't try it. I have been interrupted. But it has been a very unusually busy week for our Synthasite staff friends so I didn't want them to do something we can manage. That's all.
How kind it was of you to go to so much trouble for me. I appreciate it deeply regardless of the outcome, and when I return to the slides soon I will be in touch. It is a rare thing for someone to donate so much time to a near stranger and I am impressed by your quiet consideration.
I did review what you sent so I have an idea where to resume. Perhaps even tomorrow if things fly along.
Best,
Bengo

This can be on the back burner while things get caught up.
I have read all the GA documentation many times, and the instructions of subdomains are just murky enough that I can't trust them. Posting hasn't been lucky for me: many requests to get a wrong answer. But that could change.
Synthasite could help by making GA code installation, as well as other kinds of tracking code, universal. Webmaster code too. Removal should be universal because sometimes you want to try a specialized code, then decide to dump it.
A clearly written tutorial for people adding a common style domain name would be helpful; I'd be glad to assist with the editing on that. It could jump off from what Google offer with a plain language set of scenarios, and how to respond to them.
Another tutorial that needs a little more work is the feeds tutorial. It offers two techniques, a clunky and a graceful, but only offers instructions for the clunky. It should also look at incorporating the site RSSpect into the guidance if that is indeed a valid option.
As for the slide show, you shouldn't be looking for widgets for me. I can do that, although I appreciate your help. Just verifying that existing selections won't perform is enough.

I greatly appreciate your help.
The first sentence of paragraphs 2 and 3 seem to contradict each other. Please clarify.
Most important is the sacredness of analytic information. It mustn't be corrupted and should only compile on one site if the accuracy and reliability are outstanding.
I should have realized before following guidance to install over 800 separate Google code HTMLs that there has to be a simpler solution.
I also have a thread about slide shows that is hanging for input. The other users are kindly trying hard to be helpful but every time I install one of their proposals some aspect fails and I have lost precious time.
Slides aside, unless I overlooked such a thing, managing GA with a preferred domain name may be in need of a tutorial. I would be glad to read a draft and comment if that would help. Analytics are so important, and Synthasite is so important: they must mesh smoothly.

Unexpected question resolution delays and endingsI'm noticing that questions requiring multiple follow-ups seem to be dragging out and then getting dropped. I have several threads twisting right now. Perhaps the new tools are causing issues? Or a short term staff shortage? I have been spoiled by excellent service here but suddenly I have multiple issues dragging on. Am I posting in the wrong place, or...?

Personal tastes in music vary so much it is hard to pitch your favorites to others. I am no expert, but I imagine joining sites like MySpace and then joining music groups on sites that have user groups would help you find people who share your interest. As always, find music sites that are popular and study them.
Including supplemental information about the artists might help you distinguish your site and give people something to look at while they listen.

Every site you visit, ask yourself, would I tell a friend about this site? Why or why not? – Bengo, on October 26, 2008 21:48

Two more issues:
Your first sentence has my intention backwards: I want to forward from the domain containing synthasite to the domain not including it.
When I open my site in the editor, I can't figure out which domain I am technically in, so I don't want to install a forward unless I can be advised how to tell this.
I dread the Go Daddy interface so would like to try the forwarding method first.

I'm looking for an unclosed tag in the total slide show to explain the loading issue but need more time.
