Ben Ho reported a problem in Media Temple on March 01, 2009 13:42:
Here's what u need to know about Mediatemple Grid Service
I'm so frikkin mad with mediatemple and their gridserver. It's a piece of trash. Downtime today have been several frikkin hours and more than 12 hours of not able to use my FTP. Support is bullshit, with copy and paste replies that only make you angry.
I've wasted so much time waiting for mediatemple to work so that I can continue building a website for a client that needs mySQL access from mediatemple. My deadline is nearing and i have to rush my work now because of frikkin mediatemple.
Yes mediatemple is a big company and with so much hype, they can attract first time customers but in the long run they're going to lose numbers. I was a first time customer less than 1 year ago and now i feel cheated with all the hype and my money.
Do not get the grid service, spend lesser and get a hostgator or even namecheap.com, they are better than mediatemple.
If you don't believe me and think i'm just a naysayer or whatsoever, look at the uptime stats that i've been accumulating, just look at the screenshot people: http://tr.im/gTIu
The problem with MediaTemple's website is they don't show you the uptime stats of course, so I hereby show it to you.
100GB of "PREMIUM" storage. Premium? Really? Over 12 hours of downtime today are plagued with storage problem provided by BlueArc.com. That is the "Premium" storage for you.
If you do signup in the end and end up having your website down all the time, your first reaction is to send them a support ticket, and let me tell what's going to happen. You'll get a COPY-N-PASTE email. Even if you appear frustrated and everything, they'll reply you with a cold COPY-N-PASTE email, end up the whole support ticket is COPY-N-PASTE emails from them. So there you go, their support.
For your $200/year or $20/month, you decide if you want a mediatemple grid service, regret and get frustrated all the time, nobody can help you after that.

Yes, forget about grid server. It has caused me so much inconveniences, it's stability is not even comparable to HostGator.com or Namecheap.com. I've been monitoring their uptime for the longest time, grid server fails badly. Their uptime guarantee is whole lot of bull, they can say 100% uptime guarantee instead of 99% but the truth is they just want to lure you into signing up with them and make you regret later, like I did. I should have stuck with webhostingpad.com if I want my sites to be down all the time, and they're cheaper than mediatemple.
Yeah if you want frustration and lost time and money, use Grid Server.-

I get frustrated with grid server most of the time. It reaches the boiling point when I need to show a Flash staging site to a client, the gridserver becomes especially slow, and the client starts picking on the loading speed when it's not the site's fault.
Well I agree with chaostheory, you should get other services from MediaTemple instead, for good and cheaper hosting get Hostgator etc instead.
Here's some stats you might be interested to see, i've been monitoring a couple of Hosting service - http://tr.im/gE9
