"Filtering" ... the way LiveJournal allows users to group Friends.#RFE.twhirl
The public face of my LJ friends list is a very full channle, viz http://hfx-ben.livejournal.com/friends.
What isn't public is the set of filtered groups I can view, each with their own ULR e.g. http://hfx-ben.livejournal.com/friend....
In reply to @splorp's "We need to build a filtered channel solution" what came to mind was not yet.another hashtag service but, rather, a way to segregate Tweeters I follow.
Some are social; ome are geeks, viz http://twitter.com/itgeek ... but there is a small number of categories.
So: by feeding data to the Twhirl back-end e.g. @splorp is geek, @pistachio is marketing, @benlucier is social I could a) view the entire stream, as I do now, or b) select an individual group, as though filtering by hashtag.
cheers

p.s. this, I think, would cut into TweetDeck's turf
bentrem reported a problem in Big Think on March 07, 2009 18:38:
A record was created, but the idea does not exist.John Temple Searches for Innovation appears in a couple of listings, the obvious places, but actually doesn't exist, viz.: "Content for this idea was not found. It could be being created right now."
Under "Ideas by John" it appears as this: "John Temple posted an Idea at 5:37pm on March 6, 2009" ... which is almost 24hrs ago ... so it probably isn't "being created right now".
cheers

@dennyhalim That's what I do at http://soup.groundplane.org ... but the point of this thread is to integrate that stuff into other pages in a site.

Uhh ... ok. Sort of like what you'd get if you could subscribe to a hashtag?
Actually huh huh now that I think of it, there was buzz about a groups function months back. Ok, thanks! --bentrem – bentrem, on February 28, 2009 01:33

And Buzzable is good for ...As I tweeted to @corbett3000 just now (He announced his Gov20 group) I just don't get it. I get most things. I don't get Buzzable. *sigh*

@Flights - I noticed something broken in FireFox; slightly smoosched in IE, but scrunched in FF. Your "Blogs I Visit" is below in IE, but to the right and about 8PX wide in FF.

Yaa huh huh ... to this old timer comments is what makes a blog a blog.
The right side-bar?! OMG that integration is so smooth I never even noticed it! Haaa ... evidently it worked real well! :-)
p.s. http://soup.groundplane.org is what I want to make use of – bentrem, on February 26, 2009 05:19

Nice post ... too bad registration is required for comment. (Odd way to run a blog, no?) But say: why no demonstration page? Is nobody doing it actually? Or did I just miss the link? – bentrem, on February 25, 2009 04:25

@denny - I don't think this is just a Firefox thing: the IFrame is far too narrow for comfortable reading ... I can't imagine what would make it so it looked good for you.
On another hand (I have thousands! **grin*) the problem I encounter with that sort of widget is that they don't target externally e.g. I clicked on the LJ icon (I'm there as "gnodal") but had the whole LJ page load in the frame ... which, of course, is far from optimal.

paging through 14,000 results 5 per page ...14K channels, and you list them 5 per page? You've been asleep a looooong time. C'mon ... who has used this and not realized 5/page is dumb. C'mon ... really.

huh huh :-)
When I see it bright green, then I think I should click it!
When I see if faded / pale, I think I have already clicked it.
I see "Friends" at the top of my page.
I do not know for certain that this is people I have Friended, or people who have Friended me.
You see?
But I see it now: I clicked the green, and the fellow disappeared, so now it is clear!
thanks
bentrem asked a question in Soup on December 18, 2008 01:49:
How do I know if I friended someone just now, or un-friended them? It's very nice, the way the icon dulls and brightens ... but which is which? The tooltip in both cases says, "Add/Remove".
A person friended me. So they're in my list of friends.
I tried to add them as my friend.
Did I succeed?
I really don't know.

p.s. as evidence of how well you've created this service: I found the failed attempt in my Firefox History and, without re-visiting the original page, carried on with the post.
And succeeded.
see http://soup.groundplane.org/post/8297...
Let me guess: this validates REST as a robust methodology?

Failure to postEeew! I think this is the first time my Soup bookmarklet has failed me.
I regularly post to http://soup.groundplane.org ... maybe not real often, but regularly.
Just now I tried to grab a snippet from an RWW article and got your very reasonable alert:
"We're sorry, but something went wrong.
Our trusty debug robot just sent e-mail telling us about this problem. If you can give us further details about what happened, please write to us on our feedback page!"
Sooo, here I am.
No sign what's wrong ... the post form is behaving very normally ... not a clue.
But I know I got a "Help us improve" email earlier ...
... you tweaking things under the hood?
cheers
