    Bugmenot,
That worked! The address bar did allow me to navigate directly to the URL in safe mode. I reset the toolbars and controls, and it works for me now. I am relieved. No need to complain anymore.

Everybody: what looked like a rude response from me is genuinely a crazy coincidence. I wrote my post including "don't concern yourself..." BEFORE djst posted his similar comment. I was editing mine when he posted. I assure you I did not see his post when I wrote that. I'm not that much of a prick. He probably saw my post before he wrote his. It posted in the wrong order because I was editing it when djst posted. Please review the thread with the two posts reversed and it won't seem so rude.

djst: I apologize anyway because it looked rude for a whole day.

    Thank you everyone.

    Yes or no please.

Can I replace the Smart Location Bar with a plain old address bar; one that does not "search", but one that executes a URL command directly just like it used to?.

Don't concern yourself with my motivation. I'm stubborn. You needlessly forced me to change the way I use my computer in order to accommodate people who don't know how to navigate. I wasn't given an option. You replaced a browser that I liked with one I don't like -period.
I will settle for re-installing the previous version of FireFox.

    Your help is appreciated.
    Thank you,

Dude, If I type "http://www.google.com" in my location bar, Google appears as the top result of a search instead of going to Google.com. It used to just go where I intended it to go, BUT NOW IT DOESN'T!

    NO!
I don't want search results, I want direct one-click navigation like every browser has forever, and how the internet was intended to be used. My homepage is Google. If I want to search Google, it is in the middle of my homepage. I want to go directly to a URL. This is a dealbreaker. I will uninstall Firefox if I can't get a fix for this.
    Can you help?
    Thanks,

Give me back my address bar!
3.0 dumbed-down my browser. I don't like firefox's new address bar. FF 3.0 removes one of the most valuable features of a browser -address navigation (previously thought indispensible). I know lots of web addresses, and I like typing them in and going instantly to that site. it is very direct and simple. Now when I input a specific web address, I get search results instead of going to the website. I have to click on the search results. That is very indirect, and requires several additional steps to something that was intended to be instantaneous.
Q: How do I restore the true address bar and remove the awesome bar features in 3.0
Alternatively, how do I re install the prior version of FireFox?
