I’ve seen this type of thing happen when the dell AC adapter was bad. Try purchasing another adapter and see if that works. It doesn’t have to be a DELL. It just has to be the same DC volts and AMPS. That is shown on the back of the adapter.
Don’t go plugging your adapter into another laptop (like some people might suggest). If it is the wrong amperage or DC volts you can damage the laptop! Someone with 10 years experience ought to know that.

betty320 replied on November 23, 2009 15:26 to the problem ""AC Power Adapter Not Determined" , and Power Adapter Won't Work" in Dell:
I started a thread a few days back, but couldn't properly edit the title to address the issue at hand now.
I have an inspiron 6400 and I remember getting this message a while back. Even though I no longer receive it, my laptop runs at a snail's pace when plugged into the AC adapter. My reason for starting this thread is because my problems are unlike the typical symptoms that users are experiencing who receive this message(battery not charging). My inspiron 6400 battery charges just fine, and in fact, the only time my runs optimally is when unplugged (it's unplugged at this moment).
I was just wondering if anyone who has seen this warning has experienced my particular problem, and not the one experienced my post. When I was plugged earlier, my CPU was running at 100% and it took me 15 minutes to take a screenshot, open up Photoshop, and save a picture of that happening - something that usually takes a mere one and a half to two minutes.
If anyone can help, it'd be great. I'm trying to save for a desktop right now so that my laptop will only be used for notes in school, but dang, this is just really, really inconvenient. It seems like it's only getting worse, too. Not to mention the fact that I work online, and this issue is causing me tons of havoc.

betty320 replied on November 06, 2009 04:18 to the question "Inspiron 1720 Battery reaching end of usable life" in Dell:
You can change the dell laptop battery yourself easily.
Also, if you hardly ever use your laptop outside your house I strongly recommended you do NOT buy a new dell inspiron 1720 battery, they run up to 200 dollars and you can just take out your old battery, and use power directly from the outlet, this will work fine.
Now if you want to buy a new inspiron 1720 battery, it's probably going to have to be purchased a replacement one,its cheap and long battery life. just go here:

9-cell only $ 82.89
and purchase the battery for your PC model. Good luck.
betty320 replied on November 06, 2009 04:01 to the question ""Battery is reaching the end of it's usable life"????" in Dell:
A laptop battery is only good for a certain number of charge / discharge cycles, and after that it is finished. You can keep using the battery in your dell until it doesn't work at all - ignoring the message. You won't harm your laptop.
When you want a new replacement dell xps m1730 battery, look for the brand upstart battery. They come with a lifetime warranty so at least if you kill the battery again, it will be on them, haha...

betty320 replied on October 23, 2009 11:13 to the problem "dell m1330 battery dead" in Dell:
It seems that your xps m1330 AC adapter is fried and you need a new one.
I think you should try to find out if your problem could be solved under the extended warranty on Dell’s XPS M1330 range. I know they extended it by 12 months but limited to problems related to NVIDIA cards. Presumably, overheating that killed your AC adapter can be related to the nvidia card problem.
I’m still looking for the official DELL stance on that. Just be warned that you need to know your facts before calling DELL support. Also, another reason for you to know about the extended warranty is that a dead AC adapter possibly can be not the last of your problems (a fried motherboard is). My AC adapter died a couple of months before the whole thing died.
Anyway, I’m still looking for someone who knows more than me about hardware to explain how failing AC adapters in the XPS M1330 are related to dying montherboards and NVIDIA cards.
Hope it helps in some way

betty320 replied on July 14, 2009 02:34 to the question "Dell XPS M1530's battery won't charge, plugged in." in Dell:
AC Adaptors do go bad sometimes. With the computer OFF, plug it in for an hour, then check Control Panel:Power Options: Power Meter to see if the dell xps m1530 battery is charged. (If the charger is not supplying the proper wattage, it may run the computer but not charge it.)
If you have access to a similar computer, try your charger on the other computer, and the other computer's adaptor on yours. You may have a malfunction in the charging circuit which should be covered by your Dell Warranty.
I like to use the Control Panel Power Meter because you can plug and plug the adaptor and see what the computer is seeing.
