A comment on the problem "Second broken Dell Adapter Need Help! The AC power Adapter type cannot be determined." in Dell:
I was feeling it was going to come to a Class-action Suit before Dell did anything. You think a business of this magnitude would have been advised from the beginning to replace these free!! Oh well - greed in the corporate world. – Summer, on May 30, 2009 14:26

When you got your second adaptor, was it also 65W?? Dell's message about using a 65W or higher is to cover their butts because they only supplied 65W adaptors on many, many computers. What you need to do is to purchase a 90w adaptor. This is what solved my problem with the same error message and it's been perfect since. They know they're error message SHOULD SAY 90 WATTS. However, they'd lose too much money replacing all of our adaptors that failed. I suppose they're choosing to lose their customers instead!! Good luck!

Dear Old Fashioned, please see David's message below from Summer. It looks like you have the exact problem. Good luck getting the upgrade for the adaptor free. I guess Dell doesn't care about losing business. Next time I'll get a MAC! – Summer, on April 20, 2009 23:02

Hi David: Upon replacing my battery (both batteries from Dell), the new one suddenly gave me the exact message. I never had this message with the old battery. I pretty much ignored it, mainly because I didn't feel like dealing with more BS. Anyway, the battery completely stopped charging. When I called Dell, they said I needed a new adaptor. The new 90W adapter SOLVED the problem. I'm furious that Dell KNOWS this is their design flaw and refused to pay for the new adaptor.

A comment on the problem ""The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation"- Worst AC Adapter Design Ever!" in Dell:
I replaced it with the 90 Adaptor and it solved the problem. However, I am livid with Dell. They should have replaced this adaptor for free and refused. I wouldn't be surprised if someone starts a class action lawsuit. They are fully aware of their problem with these adaptors, yet they keep selling them and deal with it very deceptively. Thus, increasing their profit margin. This is my account: My battery was replaced during the very end of my warranty because it was not holding a charge. I never had any ac adaptor message, until Dell replaced the battery. When I complained, to Dell about the new message, they told me my computer was now out of warranty and did I want to purchase an extended warranty. I then researched the problem through the Dell Support sight and found out this is an extremely common problem in Dell's design. I called them again and brought this to their attention, and they wouldn't replace it free, even after they admitted it was a very common flaw ever on brand new computers. I've have finally had it with Dell forever!! – Beverly Maher, on April 03, 2009 17:39-
