This seems to have fixed the problem, at least for now. I really appreciate your help!

Even weirder. Mine just suddenly stopped doing it, even though deleting the preferences file and reinstalling didn't help. A few hours later, it set itself right. Who knows whether it will stay that way?

Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't help.

I have tried restarting both Today, ical, and the mac. I also tried reinstalling. There are lots of things in console.app related to Today and iCal. Here is a sample of what it says right now:
