Thanks for the quick response. Brian, I use break tags frequently, but they don't cause the following text to be displayed on the next line. I use Firefox. What browser do you use?

Web publishing allows you to see and edit the HTML. But it doesn't respect carriage feeds/line returns. If I use these, leave HTML mode, then re-enter, they are gone. And the HTML is very hard to edit at this point. It would be great if these characters could be left in the code.

Well, it's good that you're thinking of metrics, but I gotta tell you it would be better not to re-create the wheel, and if you could find a way to make your pages work with GA.

If you're going to build metric tools, you definitely should study GA.

Thanks for the response. Note that this isn't an issue with googlebot, it's an issue with Google Analytics. GA doesn't use googlebot. It works by putting their javascript on every page. Their javascript pulls together various information (e.g. the page title) and sends that information back to their servers. So the problem with GA is that 1) every page has the same url, and 2) their javascript can't access the page title. So I can't report on what pages people are looking at.

I have discovered those. I don't know why Google Analytics can't read the title - is it set by JavaScript? Thanks for looking into the Web Master tools - but even more important is looking at Google Analytics!

I didn't realize I could add the script code directly in - thought it had to be a Google gadget (got caught thinking "in the box"). Yes, it's working now.

However - I now see that every page has the same url, and Google Analytics can't determine the page title! So I can't get data on how each individual page is doing.

Am I the only customer wanting to see what's going on with my web pages?

In order to use Google Webmaster tools (http://www.google.com/webmasters), I need to either be able to add a meta tag (name and value) to my home page, or I need to be able to create a file and make it available in the home directory (not in the "files" directory). Is this possible? If not, can you make it possible?

I'm trying to use Google Analytics. I've created a Google gadget for this, and I THINK I've set up everything correctly (you can check it out at http://willowbrook.airset.com), but Google Analytics is telling me that it isn't working.

A comment on the idea "ideas: change notifications and hidden calendar item details" in AirSet:

I just realized - I can get updates via RSS without having to provide authentication. So this isn't a solution as I had previously thought. I don't want to allow unauthenticated access to my group's activities. So I'm back to needing email notifications.

Also - just to make sure - with RSS publishing turned off, is the information in Airset secure? I mean, other than by obscuring url's? – Bill Winett, on November 16, 2008 07:29
