Do you have Limewire?
I have the same iPod and mine will only take songs from Limewire. Drag the "finished" songs on Limewire and open up the "Downloads", put the downloaded songs from Limewire into the downloads section and press "Sync". That's how mine worked.

ALSO: If anyone knows how to sync songs from CDs please tell me how.

I'm sure the developers know this but Amarok manages this by mounting a jailbroken iPod / iPhone over SSH then uses some kind of magic(tm) to transfer the files... Cover art works and everything, maybe songbird could do this for the time being? Would imagine the offical Apple cables have those evil Apple authentication chips built in ruling out syncing to anything but iTunes. Boo hiss at you Apple, but you do make nice hardware.

Yeah, i downloaded and installed it but its still not picking up my ipod...

I've got the same problem, I read through the FAQs but it didn't help me...Just can't get songbird to recognize my ipod, its a 4th gen nano and im running regular XP....
