BJ Dorval reported a problem in Yahoo! on February 19, 2009 02:18:
Yahoo Voice Service is less than they say it isI recently signed up for a Yahoo phone in number on the Yahoo Voice service and paid in advance for one year of service with permits people to call my computer from their land phone and also permits me to call land and cellular phones from my computer. Included in the service is caller id of my Yahoo number but after signing up and paying for one year service in advance I subsequently learn that the caller id portion of the service contracted for is not being provided by Yahoo and when I speak to a customer server person online at Yahoo Voice I am informed that they have no idea when this part of the service will be provided nor are they willing to provide financial compensation for that part of the contracted service that they are not providing. This is just another example of why Yahoo is losing market share and their current stock price reflects this company's prospects for the future.
A comment on the problem "Potential Class Action lawsuit against Rogers" in Rogers:
I did not take note of the name of the customer service representative that was able to analyze my account in a comprehensive and intelligent way to my satisfaction. Before contacting Rogers I had scoured their website in an effort to determine the definition of an international text message and no definition was provided on their web site. Since Rogers is providing a telephone service I had assumed that text message rates from Canada to the US should be similar to the current long distance telephone structure where there is no difference in a long distance call across Canada or to the continental US. I noticed after my intervention that Rogers subsequently modified their web site to indicate that text messages to the US from Canada were considered an international text message by them and required a separate plan. I have been a customer of Rogers for nearly one year with a minimal text message plan for international messages and had never sent a text message to any truly international destination so I removed it mistakenly thinking that US text messages were included in my basic plan. The Rogers web site now makes it clear that US text messages are now considered international text messages by them (which in my opinion is ridiculous). The communications skills and knowledge level of the Rogers customer service representatives appears to be low, I was able to only get an understanding of my situation when I was finally able to speak to a nice lady who could actually speak English without a heavy accent of various derivations who calmly was willing to review all my previous bills with me. In the instead at least I understood my account. That does not mean that I agree with the Rogers policy that text messages from Canada to the US are considered to be international text messages. – BJ Dorval, on August 30, 2008 14:24

BJ Dorval asked a question in Wal-Mart on August 05, 2008 15:07:
What is the problem with self service check outs?Walmart has several self serve check out cash registers at the local store which are never operational when I visit their store (Mondays & Fridays early morning to avoid the crowd). I am a retired senior and usually do not purchase many items at a time and there is no fast service check out line, meaning I often have to wait in long lines to pay for only a few items. On the several occasions that I have queried the greeter the explanation offered is that a dedicated employee is required to monitor the self service check out registers and that management does not want to pay for the cost of this. Why would any retailer install this technology in the first place and then not make it available for the use of their clients?

After several frustrating attempts to resolve this matter with a series Rogers Customer Service Representatives I was finally able to speak to a very nice, polite, and intelligent lady who took the time to analyze the history of my account and my previous billing and as a result of this, this matter has been resolved to my satisfaction. I can report that I had previously subscribed to an supplemental international text messaging plan that I had recently canceled and was erroneously under the impression that text messages from Canada to the US were included in my base text messaging plan since I had always sent text messages exclusively to the US before and had never before received an additional surcharge. Kudos to the Rogers Customer Service Agent who took the time to analyze my account properly and cow pies to the other airheads at Rogers Customer Service currently on their payroll.

Problem with SMS text messaging on YahooI am using Yahoo Messenger for Vista. Why is it that Yahoo Messenger does not reliably transmit an SMS text message to any of the people on my contact list?

Potential Class Action lawsuit against RogersRogers has apparently unilaterally and arbitrarily changed its wireless policy on July 15th, 2008 without giving due notice as set out in its "Terms of Service" to the effect that text messages from Canada to the US which were heretofore included at no additional cost in it's package plans will henceforth be billed at $0.25 per text message. This is likely to mean that Rogers will also be subject to a class action suit by it's subscribers in a manner similar to that currently being contemplated by subscribers of Bell Mobility and Telus
