Kimmie,
I see. It seems kinda clunky to me. In my humble opinion, those sign in options should be presented to them right on the blogs comment section, rather than swooping them away from the blog.
I have made comments to many a blog that allowed me to use various credentials, where I may not have, had I to type all the stuff, and go through a process.
We all know how finicky web viewers can be. If we don't make it ridiculously easy for them, they will not comment.
I am looking forward to you update, in this regard, and hopefully it will be more user friendly, from a commentors point of view.

Comment Platform Improvement IdeasSuggestion for TypePad comments platform
I really like what you have done with the TypePad comment platform. It allows for great opportunity for community building. However, currently, the rest of the world seems, from their view, locked out.
I would like to see you move your comment platform toward that of IntenseDebate, or Disqus. When a subscriber wants to make a comment on these platforms, it is far more intuitive.
Also, they can log in with their Facebook, Twitter, OpenId, or other credentials, or merely type in their own identity.
I think these changes would make TypePad comment platform, the best in the land.

I have been working with my church to help them understand blogging. Their website is built on WordPress. WordPress has the ability, with each uploaded photograph, to easily insert text with the photograph.
