We'll look into this, just in case, but I'm 99.9% sure you're just suffering from really bad luck. We've got nothing coded into the system that would cause this and, as far as I know, we've got no bugs that would cause this.
As far as the log, I'll bring that up this week and see if we can get some movement on that. It's not as simple as just putting it in...

Brent might know more, but this looks like something that'll need to be worked out with Twitter. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 28, 2009 00:20

I think his response is in keeping with the tone of Qua's feedback. We're really doing our best to keep up with you guys, but, let's face it, the general tone in here is overly demanding, accusatory and often rude. We're doing our best, and honestly, I don't think Brent was trying to be offensive at all. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 27, 2009 19:24

We'll add this to our list of Spymaster related issues to discuss this week. I can't be sure (the points system and fluctuation was added before I really joined the team) but I think the idea here was to try and find a solid price point. Ben would probably know more. Either way, I understand the issue and we'll talk about it.
I'll also bring up the idea of stacking energy. It seems to make sense to me (as these things often do, until Ben, Brent or Chris schools me) but there might be a valid reason why we don't do that.
PS - Ucana, Quit picking on Brent. :)

Thanks Ryan. Most of the players are cool, and it's understandable when people get a bit heated about something they care about. Within reason. :P
I wish I could say more about getting this one done though; unfortunately Ben and Brent are the brains of this operation. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 20, 2009 19:25

Of course, that's a bit more complicated, but ideally that would be the best solution. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 20, 2009 19:17

D. Keith Robinson posted an update in Spymaster on October 19, 2009 22:16:
Working on updates and fixesHey everyone. The Directorate is currently working on several updates that we hope will help to balance the game in a fair way and reduce some of the current problems people are having. Our goal is to stabilize the game in the hopes we can move forward and work on fun improvements.
In specific we're trying to solve the "trilliongate" problem by looking at the caps for payouts and transfers. We will likely adjust those. To those who've suggested lifting caps; we're concerned if we do that we'll spread the money around when really what we need to do it move it out of the game completely.
To that end we're going to introduce some incentive to get higher level players to move to a new elite level. The goal is to introduce a fun way to encourage those who benefited from "trilliongate" to give up that money and get on a more even playing field. The details of that haven't been worked out in full, but we're starting small on the hopes that small changes can help fix the game while not changing the experience for everyone.
We've got some more ideas if these don't do the trick, but, again, we're starting small and trying to avoid anything drastic. Our hope is that things will balance out for most players and we can start thinking about further improvements and content.
As always we appreciate your feedback, but, please keep it constructive and civil. Also realize that as a small team we can't move too quickly and some of the changes and ideas suggested are very complex in nature, even if sometimes they don't seem that way. Spymaster is a very complicated game, made even more so by all of the social interaction. We're going to try and do a better job keeping on top of things and we'll need your help to do that.

Just an update, I've been brainstorming ideas to fix this in fair way and I think I've got some good ones. Many of the ideas here are good, but I don't think we can reasonably implement something that *forces* anything.
Sure making everyone go Elite would probably fix this right quick, but that's not really viable. The fallout would be too great and, honestly, I'd rather try and find fun, engaging ways to help this problem fix itself.
I do think a "special Elite VI" or something similar might entice some of the more powerful players and that could really help, but we'll need to make it cool enough to make it worth doing, which might take some time.
Brent's got some ideas as well. My guess is we'll likely do lots of smaller tweaks as opposed to one big one, so you'll have to be patient with us.

I would generally agree with you, and honestly I'm not that emotionally attached or upset by this, but... come on. He compared us to monkeys using typewriters, among other things. That crosses the line and we're not going to just sit by and take that kind of abuse. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 18, 2009 22:59

We're going to downgrade the Apache. Probably to +600. It made sense in relation to the other items to have it 12m and +1500, but with so much money in the system, clearly that was too cheap for such an upgrade. We'll be changing that. Watch this space for the outcry. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 18, 2009 16:31

You can speak your mind if you want, that's fine. And from now on I'll ignore you. You don't seem to grasp the issues here, even after they've been explained in detail multiple times. If you were the only player playing the game you're complaints and suggestions would be valid and probably make a load of sense. You're not the only player, so they don't.
Everything you've brought up here was carefully thought over and rejected for valid reasons. We tried rolling back the game; that's not a viable solution. Neither is wholesale removal of funds, there is no systematic way to do that. Banning players? Harder than you might think considering the anonymity that Twitter brings along with it.
No, you clearly just don't get it and, to top it off, you're an asshole about it. So yeah, keep whining if you like, and don't worry, we're not going to ban anyone from speaking their mind, but I for one am done listening to you.
It's my hope that we can fix the problems in the game, but know that there are plenty out there who are playing the game within the rules, just like you, who will be damaged by whatever fix we choose. Many of them are fine with things as they are. If it were up to me, I'd have pulled down the game, rebalanced everything and re-set the entire game. Just think how that would effect the casual players, let alone some of you long-timers. Would you like that? Probably not, so get off your high horse and realize you really don't have any concept of what we have to consider when thinking about this stuff. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 18, 2009 16:29

You don't like how the game is being run? It's simple, you don't have to play. We've not abandoned the game and for many it's running fine, but we're running a business and we've been focused on other things. Spymaster is not going to keep us in business and if we go out of business you can bet that Spymaster as a game will have come to an end.
Why am I bothering to tell you this, especially after you've been so rude? Well, I feel you should be able to make an informed decision about whether or not you keep playing. Brent, and to a lesser degree myself, have been trying to help you guys out, but it hardly seems worth it. I could get the guys together and see if we could divert some time from our other projects to see if we can make the game better, but why should I? You'd just figure out how to break it again, probably get here on Get Satisfaction and complain a lot, make us waste valuable work time (and valuable leisure time) responding to your problems, etc.
We've not done anything in a month because we've got other projects and we've not been able to come up with a good solution to the mess. There is a good chance we never will. We are hoping to make some adjustments, but no matter what we do we're going to piss someone off. And, you know what, I think we're all ok with that. – D. Keith Robinson, on October 18, 2009 06:35
