Shutting down sex dwarfs?Howdy!
As a moderator, is there anything I suggest we do about accounts that are obviously created to sex bot/trolling accounts? I only see them when I notice spam comments in response to links. I also block inappropriate images, in keeping with M&C policy. I also block those comments.
I mean, I'm not hating, but come on, folks, there are places to get your freak on. This ain't one of 'em. I will not put the name of the most consistent offender in this question, but she's sticky and she's sweet, apparently.
Slightly related: since we're on facebook now, I'm also seeing a great deal more shady "business" links being added. Not sure if I can suggest Jaxon shut down those accounts after a certain amount of posts have been added, either.

Support for Flickr Video Embedding?Hi Jaxon,
Can we support embedding flash videos from Flickr? I had no idea they had video until today.
Here's the video I found:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/55369298...
It's a baby elephant taking a bath.
Here's where I tried to submit it.

Much obliged.

boogeboogieston replied on May 09, 2009 23:08 to the question "Confused on "Content Site" Defintion" in MilkandCookies Network:
Thanks, Jaxon.
Let me clarify what I said. I should have said a collection of images and videos dedicated to the same thing, not a collection of links. If one has to click from the landing page, then I wouldn't consider it a submission for M&C.
But I'm still unclear. I understand about exceptions, but am I going rogue?

Confused on "Content Site" DefintionHi Jaxon, W_W, and Friends,
I've had a couple of links rejected for the same reason before (as content sites), namely:
http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/
http://pictureisunrelated.com/
Content Site : We link to individual content (games, animation, movies, etc.) so that each piece can be voted for on it's own merit. Select an individual page from this site and reply to this message with it's URL. We will update this submission for you.
But I have had these links approved:
http://uglyoverload.blogspot.com/
http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com/
I'm confused. They seem to me to be of the same ilk. And they all seem to me to be of the same ilk as Failblog and Cuteoverload or else I wouldn't have submitted them. And I think these would be really dull as individual pages. The fun is going in and getting a new page every day. I mean, one of the other rejection reasons is:
Single Images:
It's very rare that a single image is very interesting.
To me, if something is a collection of links very much tied to the same topic, but changes on the daily, sort of a dynamic image gallery, then it is appropriate for M&C.
Something I would consider a content site would be BoingBoing, where the entries are so unlike one another. M&C is another content site.
I want to be in line with M&C policy, though, so if I'm way off from what the other moderators are doing, tell me! I try to submit content that's beyond just videos to keep M&C varied, but I'm not a gamer. That leaves it to stuff like this. If it's out of scope, let me know, and I'll stop. Or let me know why some of these things are not like the others.

United States (Brooklyn, New York), Firefox 3.03 on Mac OS 10.4.11.
This happens for all the GYWO links.
I can see them in Safari just fine on the Mac.
Note that I don't have this problem at work on the PC platform (I'll check tomorrow and see what that is). I can also see them just fine on the www.236.com site on Mac/Firefox.

Thanks for listening and taking me seriously. I wasn't necessarily looking for a change of the image, though I am glad to see it change. But I do appreciate being heard. I feel people often assume they're right (and the comments on the "Freestyle Rap Translated" thread seem to confirm this for me) without considering another opinion. The anonymity of the Internets makes this worse.
Thanks much.

Why Is the New "Gangsta Life" Tag Symbol an Ape?Why is the new "Gangsta Life" tag an ape with a gun? It used to be the same as guns, with the pistol having the barrel facing the shooter, and now it's a chimpanzee holding a gun. I can understand wanting them to to be separate, but is this the best symbol? It seems racially charged to me, but as a Black lady, I know I'm very sensitive. So I want the moderators of M&C to tell me why this is appropriate.
Attached is the graphic that is even called "Thug life primate" on M&C. Racism is one of the exclusions for submission of clips to M&C. If I'm going from his outfit, though, he isn't dressed as a thug, he's dressed for wall street. Huh.
I also know I'm not the only one who has noticed the change in tag; see the following link for discussion on both sides.

Yeah . . . just tell me why this is okay with you, and why it's okay with the community as a whole (two-part question).
I know there are things that don't bother me that I feel are valid in the eyes of others, and aren't hard for me to pay attention to. Part of that is remembering I come from a place of experience and knowing, and trying not to force that onto others.

Thanks, White Wolf--I tried that and it worked. The link was indeed a You Tube link, but the description wasn't long. Maybe because it wasn't in English? Here it is if any M&C folks want to look at it to diagnose why it was problematic.

Can't submit links this afternoon--getting 500 server errorI've tried from two different networks and two different OS today to post a link and I keep getting a 500 error from M&C. What gives?
500: Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

"View Series" Should Link to Rateable Series on Headline PageI watch "The Daily Show" on M&C, but won't rate the whole show until I watch the whole show. I use the links embedded under the video for the next portion of the show to navigate through, but get irritated that the "View Series" link doesn't go to the rateable series that's on the Headline page. Instead, it goes to something that will be called, for example, Series 210.
Why doesn't the "View Series" link for series go back to the original series that I started in? If I want to honestly rate a series after I watch it, I either have to hit the back button or remember where I started from. Very irritating!
