It was recently reported and reproduced by myself on Windows that double-clicking another song while the current song is about 3-5 sec before the end freezes the application sometimes.

Currently, Songbird doesn't delete anything on your drive just removes entry from the playlist.
If this feature is implemented, the option to delete from the drive will be offered when you choose Remove for a media file in a library. Nothing should be deleted without your knowledge.

You want to import iTunes library to Songbird and sync playcounts/ratings both ways.
There is a suggestion filed in Bugzilla about syncing playcounts to iTunes.
To track the comments on this work item:

1. Go to the "people" box in the upper right hand corner of Bug #11969;
2. Add your email in the "add cc" box;
3. Scroll down and hit commit.

What Songbird version do you use?
How did you add the artwork to .m4a files?
Did you use iTunes ->Get Album Artowork function, or did you drag-n-drop into display pane?

I've tested this with the latest nightly build on Mac Intel.
I've tried drag-n-drop artowrk (jpg) to the display pane for .m4a files, then importing into Songbird with iTunes Importer(Tools-Options-Media Importer) and it worked fine for me.

I don't think it was ever designed add a playlist via drag-n-drop .m3u or .pls files onto the application.
You can use File->Import a Playlist menu instead and point to .m3u file.

'Favorite' column is not suppose to be added to the library view nor to the column selection list.
The only place with ability to add/remove 'Favorite' column is "Favorite Stations" playlist which is created under SHOUTcast node in a service pane once you start check stations as 'favorite' in a main SHOUTcast directory.
I've checked Songbird 1.0 build 860 on Ubuntu Hardy and there is no "Favorite" column or columnpicker item in a library, which is expected.

Point to the folder you want to import and hit "Open".
Another option is to drag-n-drop the folder onto Songbird library view.

open it in a browser, it will detect your platform automatically.
Remove your olad profile:
rm -rf .songbird2
Extract .tar file and run
./songbird
