A comment on the question "Day-by-Day balances over all accounts based on entries already recorded" in The Infinite Kind:
Also, funny story, it didn't include the 'total' column, and it was displaying categories (I don't think it should have included those). Try downloading it again. – bossross_2063, on May 28, 2009 08:22

'Account List' is what it will appear as in the Extensions menu. – bossross_2063, on May 28, 2009 06:23

'forecast' doesn't sound right. Maybe you also installed http://code.google.com/p/moneydance-f... ?
Is there a "my extension" available in the extensions menu? I _think_ that is what the extension you want is called (it's just the default name). I'll double-check that tonight and post another comment if that's not right. – bossross_2063, on May 27, 2009 21:30

You didn't rename the file after downloading it, did you? I think if it is not called 'myextension.mxt' you will get that error. There are other things that cause that error, too, but I don't remember what they all are at the moment. If you didn't rename the file... what version of Moneydance are you using, and what OS? – bossross_2063, on May 27, 2009 02:33

Give http://barney.gonzaga.edu/~abennet1/m... a try. I think it should do what you want. Let me know if you see any bugs.

A comment on the question "Cannot get MD to launch after install on Ubuntu" in The Infinite Kind:
Probably "rm -rf /root/moneydance" but be careful with that command & make sure you're deleting what you think you are!
You probably don't need to actually remove it, though. Moneydance isn't really tied into the system the way any programs you install through aptitude would be. If I were you, I would just install java, set the INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME_OVERRIDE to use java you just installed, and run Moneydance again.
(Or you could spend some time investigating why Java either didn't get included or isn't being used.) – bossross_2063, on April 05, 2009 02:35

Did you try to delete that java cache file? ;)
"java -version" will try to use the java found by 'which java' (and you can see from your output above that you don't have java installed (systemwide)) rather than the version of java that Moneydance is trying to use; you probably want to try "find /root/moneydance -name java" and then "/root/moneydance/(wherever)/java -version".
A couple other things that probably don't solve your immediate problem but you may find interesting now or later:
- /root/moneydance/Moneydance is a script. INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME_OVERRIDE is defined near the beginning of that file and lets you override the java version that came with Moneydance, if you want.
- I prefer the version of java that came with with the 'ubuntu-restricted-extras' package in aptitude. It made the UI (I think specifically the row heights in the register?) a little prettier.
- following the symlinks from 'which java' got me to /usr/lib/jvm
- my INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME line looks like:
INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME_OVERRIDE=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.10

I apologize if I'm misunderstanding your question, but I don't think you need to use split transactions for what you're doing. You can always enter a category, payee, and amount for transactions; you only use a split when the transaction has multiple categorees or payees. The "numerous transactions from one credit card statement" would each be separate transactions in Moneydance.
The Moneydance demo doesn't have any functionality restrictions, so the best thing to do is just download and install the demo and see if it fits your needs.

A comment on the question "No Memo in Split Transaction." in The Infinite Kind:
^l (ell) opens the split window. ^F4 or ^w or whatever your normal "close window" shortcut is should close it. Alt-n will create a new split and alt-d will delete it. If you delete a split you can no longer use the arrow keys to move between split lines, so you have to close and then re-open the split window (a pain but better than using the mouse). You can't do everything _easily_, but it _can_ all be done with the keyboard.
I agree, I'd really like a memo field for each split, too. I just put my memo data in the description field, and when I search for something I have to search in both fields: again not ideal, but certainly better than not having the memo information! – bossross_2063, on March 19, 2009 23:50

Accidentally posted twice when logging inI answered a question, and when I tried to submit my question I was prompted to log in. I entered my username and password, and pressed Submit. I realized I wanted the 'remember me' button to be checked, so I checked it and pressed Submit again. After a couple seconds, the login window went away and my answer had been posted twice. It would be nice if GS had recognized the double post and only posted the answer once.
Also (separate issue), although I was able to delete the second response, it took a couple tries:
- I pressed delete, and the second answer went away.
- I refreshed the page, and the second answer was back, with no Delete link.
- I refreshed the page again, and the second answer was back, with a Delete link.
- I pressed delete and nothing happened. I pressed it again, still nothing.
- I refreshed the page, and the second answer was gone.
- Refreshed again a few minutes later, it's still gone, good.

bossross_2063 asked a question in Feedly on March 01, 2009 22:31:
first-time user problemsI ran into several minor issues, when combined together they made my initial feedly experience pretty frustrating. If I hadn't taken the time to write up the issues I was encountering, I would have uninstalled Feedly before figuring it out. I installed the Feedly extension from feedly.com, in Firefox 3.0.6 in Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit.
- when I restarted Fx after installing the extension, Firefox restored all my tabs as normal but the message from feedly overwrote my first tab (instead of creating a new tab). I immediately went to gmail in that tab and didn't fully read the text. Please do not overwrite my saved tabs!!!
- I couldn't figure out how to get to the main Feedly page (feedly.com/home) because I lost the contents of that first tab. Before closing it, I saw something about clicking the green feedly button to start using it. I don't have that button anywhere that I can find: it is not on the status bar, the navigation toolbar, or the bookmarks toolbar. It is not under the Tools menu and if I go to the addons window the Preferences box for Feedly is grayed out.
- before I activated the Feedly Mini, it was partially hidden by the status bar (it looks to me as if the size of my Firefox window is being improperly calculated, causing that floating box to be positioned incorrectly). I clicked on it, and it was replaced by the bold text (still partially hidden by the status bar), 'Forbidden.' After refreshing the iGoogle page, Feedly Mini was in the correct location.
- feedly.com/home and other feedly pages do not render until I switch to another tab and return to the feedly tab. The tab just sits there, blank, and says 'Done' at the bottom left. This caused a lot of frustration.
- more not-quite-right sizing issues: I clicked on the down arrow on my feedly.com/home page and I can't read the last entry because it is outside of the gray box:

I don't really know. If I had to guess, I'd say that the 'Segmentation fault' is due to a mismatch between the java version you are using and what Moneydance wants. The 'Moneydance' file tries to run its own java: I don't think it necessarily uses the same as "which java" reports. I'd try setting the 'INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME_OVERRIDE' value at the beginning of the 'Moneydance' script file (mine reads "INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME_OVERRIDE=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.10", change yours to match your java directory if it's different), or comment it out if you have it set.

In the Moneydance directory there is a file called 'Moneydance' (capital 'M', no extension): just run that file (cd to the directory and then run ./Moneydance). Then open your .md file with File | Open.... You _may_ need to install Java if you don't already have it.
If you purchased Moneydance and still have the e-mail you received with your registration key, it may actually be easier to just download the latest version from moneydance.com and install it "like you did the first time," and re-enter the registration key.
