I tried resetting the Adobe Photoshop Settings File by holding down Command+Option+Shift keys as I launched CS4. This seemed to clear up my problems!

I had a similar problem but Avram's recommended solution didn't work for me. Instead, I tried resetting the Adobe Photoshop Settings File by holding down Command+Option+Shift keys as I launched CS4. This seemed to clear up my problems!
