A comment on the question "I bought a subscription to Mozy and then changed computers" in Mozy, Inc:
There was a delay with your reply posting, lwaldal, so I didn't see it until after my reply to Bryan. I'm on a Mac and it does seem to be working now so perhaps that's why. Although I don't know why it wasn't working for a while. – Amy Muller, on May 05, 2008 20:31

It would have been more useful to address some of the issues raised here, to wit:
* the less than helpful notifications
* the fact that the daemon runs with permissions no application should need
* and my personal pet peeve, that for all the cycles it used and backups that failed, it would literally crush my system to where I couldn't use it.

Anyone having trouble with the Mozy software should email support at support@mozy.com. If you are receiving errors, include your mozy.log file as an attachment as well as a description of the issue you are having. The file can be found here:

Since a subscription is good for one machine, the old machine must be deleted from your account before you can backup with the new machine. This can be done by logging into your Mozy.com account and clicking My computers on the left. Click the 'Delete' link next to the current machine. If you have any additional questions you can email our support team at support@mozy.com.

If you stop a backup and restart it later, your previously backed up files are still safe, so there’s no need to worry. You won’t have to back those files up all over again. Mozy knows what you have already backed up and only needs to back up new or changed files.
The status screen will show the percentage completed of the current backup you are running. So even if you have already backed up 75% of your data and you stop and then restart your backup, it will show that you are starting at 0% again. This only refers to the current backup, not past backups. Your previously backed up files are still safe on our servers.
If you need any further clarification or have any other concerns, please contact support at support@mozy.com know and we will be happy to help.
