After manually setting up the sync details (I'm in an unsupported country), the sync appears to start (it says it's sending ->60, ->80 etc.), but then it bombs out with an error message, reproduced below:

') we don't understand. Sorry we could not add it to your soocial contacts.

I assume there are character issues or something?
