A comment on the question "Wut do u do on consecutive shakes?" in Tapulous:
There may be a difference in hardware between the 3GS & Touch, but I think all these differences could easily be compensated for in software.
The real unknown is whether or not Apple cares about this particular type of application enough to fine tune it. This will also mean Tapulous will have to make adjustments after the next version of the OS.
I assume you were running 3.0 (or 3.0.1) on your Touch. Compared to that, the arrows on the 3GS work great, but don't get too excited because the issue is still there, just MUCH better. I stopped playing on my Touch for the exact same reason! Previous versions of the OS & TTR worked just fine on the Touch, so we know it can be fixed in software.
FWIW, I think I've read that the accelerometer sensitivity is adjustable if you jailbreak your device. I'm not sure though because if so, I don't understand why Apple just doesn't provide access to that API. There could be a few different layers related to this though. Anyway, I'm not willing to mess with jailbreaking unless a fix isn't available soon. – bufulo, on August 16, 2009 19:42
A comment on the problem "TTR 2 Problem on the new iPhone 3GS" in Tapulous:
This points to yet another task on the iPhone 3GS that is apparently not even present on the iPod Touch 2G. Hopefully when it is off the task is entirely disabled... hmmm... wouldn't such a task add significant latency to tap detection? Would it really only affect 3-finger touches? I doubt it! – bufulo, on August 16, 2009 09:51

Don't forget about the issues with Apple OS 3.0 wrt shakes. The acceleromenter sensitivity is a lot less in OS 3.0. I have another application with the same issue (have to shake much harder than previous version).
I'm sure there is a limit to how closely spaced consecutive shakes can be, but there are songs with shakes as close together as Heregoesnothin' that work fine.
There are really 2 seperate issues here, but they are related. They can both be solved with software updates. Hopefully OS 3.1 addresses the sensitivity issue & TTR refines the filtering of the accelerometer events in the next version.

bufulo asked a question in Tapulous on August 14, 2009 00:39:
LMFAO at white blocks! It plays normally most of the time, but I've already seen lots of big square white eggs, IN THE MIDDLE LANE ONLY, 3 out of 5 times playing it! Each time was after restarting TTR2. iStat reported over 115 MB free memory after quitting TTR. The last time it happened after rebooting & restarting TTR with over 150 MB free memory.
I think it's safe to say this song on a 3GS is further exposing whatever the root cause of the white blocks issue is! If it's memory management, it's happening during play because TTR had PLENTY of memory to work with.

It's NOT because the arrows are close. There are songs with arrows as close together or even closer that work just fine. There is more to it than just the space between shakes. – bufulo, on August 13, 2009 17:56-

A comment on the praise "Lets Be Nice.. Give Praise" in Tapulous:
I'm not at all convinced the problems are solely due to Apple OS 3.0. If we can run the current version of TTR perfectly under OS 3.1, I might be convinced, but I'll bet money that won't happen! – bufulo, on August 10, 2009 06:41

A comment on the question "iPhone OS 3.0.1" in Tapulous:
I've reinstalled more than once & lost all my scores too - all for nothing. These are bad bugs for sure & I'm not convinced it's entirely the fault of OS 3.0. I have no other apps that behave badly but I probably do spend more time in TTR than most others. TTR also makes use of a lot more of the hardware than most other single apps.
Leftfield seems to be kicking butt with the beta 3.1 versions of the OS, so let's hope that & the next version of TTR work right. Really sucks to have to wait until September though!
PS. I sure hope we can Import our high scores from the leaderboards with the next version of TTR! – bufulo, on August 10, 2009 06:36
A comment on the question "Why does it seem people get higher scores unfairly??!" in Tapulous:
Assuming you are tapping accurately, there could be other reasons - bugs are ripping you off! There are 2 ways this currently happens in online play. 1) Your score is reduced after the game is done. 2) Catch-up taps are awarded to other players, allowing them to get scores even higher than the maximum normally possible.
Number 1 is an incredibly annoying bug that I've seen happen quite a few times. Keep a close eye on your score when you finish to see if it matches what is displayed once you're back in the room & points are awarded. Mine has dropped as much as 50k. I've never had my score increased, only decreased.
Number 2 is sort of by design, but is currently not functioning properly. I've played games where players scored more than the maximum possible on games. I've also received TONS of catch-up tappers myself when I was the highest ranked player in the room.
krohn7master, I hope you didn't automatically assume the player was at fault given all the problem reports lately. Maybe you looked up their rank first, but even that doesn't tell the full story. – bufulo, on August 09, 2009 18:03

Worst song for dropped taps online?Tap Tap Domination? Drops at least 20 taps every time I try it!
