A comment on the problem "TTR3 - "3" for 3 years-old kids?" in Tapulous:
HATE the avatars.
LOVE the chat but don't really use it much anyway. This was my idea by the way. :)
Agree that immunity in 16x is dumb.
Disagree that tap accuracy notifiers are working perfectly fine. I've noticed they often don't work at all for the first few notes. They are also mostly useless because they are covered by my thumbs during play.
Can't stand the weapons & other junk interfering with game play.
I do generally like the new GUI. It's far more responsive & easier to navigate than in TTR2. Just wish they wouldn't have gone with the gumballs & monkey drums theme. – bufulo, on October 08, 2009 19:05

Me too. I also like the round targets with a clear center in TTR2. No need for any fancy animations on the target itself (no "moving" target).
Also agree that 16x shouldn't give ANY immunity to misses. – bufulo, on October 08, 2009 19:02
A comment on the idea "Major memory leak in Apple OS." in Tapulous:
My guess is the 164 MB was due to starting iStat ASAP after the reboot - before some other background tasks had a chance to get going. I normally see in mid 150s after a reboot. – bufulo, on October 07, 2009 21:47
A comment on the idea "Major memory leak in Apple OS." in Tapulous:
I have an app named iStat installed. I think it's a paid app. It used to have an option to get more free memory but Apple made them get rid of it. This tells me Apple knows there is a problem but is having trouble figuring it out. There are other apps out there that report this info - maybe a free ones by now too.
I have no idea if the "freeing memory" functionality was a legitimate use of an Apple OS API or a hack. It did seem to help but not as reliably as a reboot. – bufulo, on October 07, 2009 21:39
A comment on the idea "Major memory leak in Apple OS." in Tapulous:
I have a 3GS as well & normally never see below about 100 MB too. I have no idea what caused it to start the day with only 40 MB! This morning it was at 164 MB - probably the highest I've ever seen. – bufulo, on October 07, 2009 21:37
bufulo shared an idea in Tapulous on October 07, 2009 21:28:
Major memory leak in Apple OS.This isn't a Tapulous problem, but since it really makes a difference in game performance, I thought I'd post it.
I'm in the habit of powering down my phone at bedtime before plugging it in to charge. The next morning it always has at least 150 MB free. Yesterday, first thing in the morning, long before installing TTR3, I picked up my phone for the day to find the free memory was down to 40 MB! TTR2 play was terrible. The phone was in Airplane Mode with WIFI on, Push notifications off, auto-brightness off, etc.
I don't think it's the amount of free memory that's important, but the fact that memory IS leaking. Every time I've noticed free memory disappear, performance suffers to some degree. I haven't seen a correlation between the memory leak & any one particular issue like dropped taps, overlapping tap targets, etc. - it pretty much messes everything up. Whatever is going wrong in the OS, a memory leak is a clear sign it is happening. When it does, the only fix seems to be a reboot.
PS. I realize this isn't news to most people here, just worth repeating. I'm also curious if anyone else has seen such a substantial memory loss overnight.
A comment on the problem "Tap tap misses multi touch notes?" in Tapulous:
I've seen it happen with TTR 3 as well, but only online so far. The "doubles" or overlapping touch areas issue still exists as well & I've seen that with offline play. TTR3 really seems to be mostly a new UI, which is mostly better except for the gumballs (tappers) & tom-tom drums (targets). – bufulo, on October 07, 2009 20:21-

bufulo replied on October 07, 2009 05:36 to the question "TTR3 is great, but..." in Tapulous:
The tappers seem to go faster in some songs than others. Online play can get really fast if the song is already fast & one of those clock things is activated (however that works). Strange.
I don't mind the faster speed but it would be nice if there were some way to know ahead of time which songs have the fast tappers so we could be better prepared at the start.
A comment on the question "We need a guide for the avatar, and a way to reset them" in Tapulous:
Like a sex change? :)
PS. I thought that was funnier when I wrote it because I thought you wrote operations instead of options. Give me a break - I'm really old! Seriously though, I chose female instead of male & would like to be able to change that. Selecting "M" somewhere in there doesn't do it. – bufulo, on October 07, 2009 05:28
bufulo asked a question in Tapulous on October 07, 2009 05:27:
MAJOR battery draw.TTR3 seemed to suck my battery dry about twice as fast as TTR2. Anybody else?

I completely agree & have suggested this before too. I'd MUCH rather see the % of the maximum possible score instead of the % of taps hit. – bufulo, on September 30, 2009 23:09
A comment on the question "Don't install OS 3.1 on 3GS!!!" in Tapulous:
I don't know anything about the jailbreaking stuff, but if you don't want to upgrade, try doing a Restore from Backup. It really helps on my 3GS & also made my iPod Touch 2G playable again. You have to make a Backup first, then Restore from Backup. If you do a Restore (the button in iTunes), you may have to Sync & download all the songs again, so be sure to Restore from Backup instead. – bufulo, on September 25, 2009 23:00
A comment on the question "Don't install OS 3.1 on 3GS!!!" in Tapulous:
Beats me. OS 3.1 seems no worse than 3.0.1. It was a mess until I did the Restore from Backup though. I think the Restore fixes/minimizes the file management issues (defragments the FLASH "disk drive" or whatever the underlying issue is).
I've been expecting another update to OS 3.1.1 to add support for the MMS stuff. I assume that update will have some other minor fixes from Apple, maybe even something TTR3 requires.
Sounds like the MMS stuff has been available to some people for a while already, even without the software update. I've also read reports that the OS update has been available for over an hour for some. My guess is AT&T & Apple are somehow staggering the release to reduce the new network traffic. I don't care about any of this stuff because I rarely text anyway.
I'm only interested in TTR3! If Tapulous hasn't figured out the file issues, I bet the same problems crop up over time. Not looking forward to downloading all the songs again though. – bufulo, on September 25, 2009 20:07
A comment on the question "Don't install OS 3.1 on 3GS!!!" in Tapulous:
Mine works pretty well on the Medium songs, but only after I did a Restore from Backup. I'm positive now that it has something to do with file ("disk") management or caching. The songs I've downloaded most recently are usually the ones that work the best, except for those where the "doubles issue" comes into play. The new song on Thursday shows that problem pretty well.
There's an iTunes update, but still no TTR3. – bufulo, on September 25, 2009 18:28

I can make her purr with the stroke of my hand...
This is the first time I've had the problem with the News page & challenges. I assumed it was probably related to the upcoming update & changes going on with the Tapulous servers. Can't play online, not getting challenges... what's next? Maybe TTR will cause my phone to burst into flames! – bufulo, on September 25, 2009 17:40

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm seeing. I assume it's not really a bug like Jess said, but probably something to do with the Tapulous servers & maybe even related to the TTR3 update. – bufulo, on September 25, 2009 17:36

A wild kitten that wakes up at about midnite. I end up watching TV while she burns off energy for a few hours. Play TTR during commercials.
Hey, I assume challenges are working for you, but is more than one at a time displayed now? Since a few days ago, only 1 is displayed at a time for me. I didn't even get to play a few of them before they were replaced by a new one!
Are you updating to TTR3 in a few hours? – bufulo, on September 25, 2009 15:45
