I sure hope TTR3 has an option to move the tap targets up so people with bigger hands can play better too! The targets are so low right now that my thumbs are turned in so much that they cramp on any long strings of fast taps.
It's funny watching the videos of people play with their thumbs almost straight because their hands are so small! It's so much easier to tap with your thumbs straighter & relaxed.
A comment on the praise "Tap Tap Revenge 3 Release Date" in Tapulous:
3.1.1 is only available for the iTouch, not phones. Who knows if they are really the same anyway. My guess is there is some significant difference, probably related to phone-specific hardware at the very least, otherwise they would have released it for the 3GS as well. A wild guess is that 3.1.1 for the phones includes something for the MMS or SMS or whatever that photo texting crap is.
PS. Actually, the link above pretty much says exactly that... duh! – bufulo, on September 17, 2009 20:41
A comment on the problem "TTR2 is DEAD" in Tapulous:
It just failed for me on my iPod Touch! Lost all the songs after a Restore (using Restore button in iTunes 9). After downloading all the songs again, it does seem to play quite a bit better than it did with 3.0.1.
I wonder if the losing songs issue has to do with using the Restore button vs. Restore from Backup (right-clicking in the left pane on the device name). I don't remember which I did for my 3GS that worked so well, but I think Restore from Backup. I don't have time to mess with this again, so maybe someone else already knows the answer or has time. Let us know! – bufulo, on September 16, 2009 08:00

If you're playing on a 3GS, you should try a Restore in iTunes. Be sure you have all the songs you want downloaded & also be sure to do a Backup in iTunes before the Restore.
This won't solve all the problems, but it really helps with the unrecognized taps & arrows issues. The end result should be a little better than OS 3.0.1.
A comment on the idea "enhanced challenges" in Tapulous:
Oh no! It's all my fault! :)
It should be safe doing a Restore. Be sure to Backup first & save your data some other way if you can. Lots of applications let you e-mail data to save or post it to a website. There are also those file sharing apps that might let you copy the actual file data directly to your computer if you're really concerned about losing it.
I'm not sure how applications tag data or files to be backed up, but it seems to work properly for all that I've used as long as I have a Backup. When I've mentioned losing my high scores in TTR, I think it's usually just that my Backup is too old (like from when I last had to Restore or Update). If you force a Backup before you Restore, it should be OK. iTunes will probably do a Backup automatically anyway. – bufulo, on September 13, 2009 17:03

I think I would have made #6 or 7 on the leaderboard from your Pandajero challenge! I've made top ten on a few songs, but keep getting bumped down as everyone improves.
Arrows were never a huge problem for me with Pandajero but enough that they kept me from FCing it a few times. It was usually the unrecognized (probably recognized in the wrong lane as Ceegers discovered) taps in those 2 or 3 fast side-to-side parts of the song that usually foil my attempts. – bufulo, on September 13, 2009 16:56
A comment on the problem "cant get a perfect streak because of lags" in Tapulous:
Actually, try a Restore from Backup. That made 3.1 at least as good as 3.0 for me on a 3GS. It was OK when I first installed 3.1, but degraded quickly, especially after trying to Update 3.1 again (since that helped in the past with 3.0.1). After Restoring 3.1, from a Backup that included all the songs I had downloaded (important!), it seems to be playing as good as 3.0.1 with slightly improved graphics performance. I've still seen dropped taps & arrows, & even some lag/stutter, but no worse than 3.0.1 now.
PS. Oops, I see you're on a Touch. Not sure I'd mess with it if I were you! My Touch has been a mess since 3.x, but I haven't tried a Restore on that yet. At the very least, if you do, keep a copy of the old OS (2.x) & iTunes 8 so you can downgrade just in case! – bufulo, on September 13, 2009 02:03
A comment on the praise "Ttr is soooo much faster on 3.1!" in Tapulous:
Not on a 3GS, at least not with any consistency AT ALL - I guarantee it! Probably not if you update to any of the 3.x versions of the OS either. – bufulo, on September 13, 2009 01:29

jkatj, that was a good score on Pandajero! Took me a few tries to beat it & of course I get my best score & can't post it to the leaderboard from a Challenge! Maybe add that feature to your list of "Enhanced Challenges!" – bufulo, on September 13, 2009 01:21
A comment on the idea "enhanced challenges" in Tapulous:
Guess who's 3GS is working normally again after a Restore? I didn'even have to download the songs again but did lose most of my scores (what else is new).
The other day I Updated to 3.1, then had to download the songs again since the Update failed & I chose to set up "as a new phone. The result was no improvement (actually worse performance).
Considering this, I'm pretty sure the success this time (a Restore from Backup) is darn good confirmation that at least some of the issues are related to memory management - probably in the file system & probably related to fragmentation or caching, not song file corruption! Isn't that funny how you sometimes think of TTR when you hear a song elsewhere? There are lots of songs I've heard for the first time on TTR! It's pretty pathetic, but sometimes I can even visualize the tappers flowing by! – bufulo, on September 13, 2009 00:00

Can't downgrade to 3.0.1! I just tried & get "The iPhone could not be updated. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." I wonder if this is a new "feature" of iTunes 9? Dang it!
PS. Great, after trying to reinstall 3.1 it crashes & forces a Restore. I bet I'll have to download all the songs again too. This really bites. – bufulo, on September 12, 2009 22:16

So what's the official age difference to be a cougar? Did you make it to the cougar convention in CA? :) – bufulo, on September 12, 2009 22:01
A comment on the praise "Ttr is soooo much faster on 3.1!" in Tapulous:
I was referring to both, but I see the arrow-window-too-long on 18 Days VERY consistently. It's possible to get thru them without getting red if you shake very quickly & lightly, but still IMPOSSIBLE to get green on that second one. This only works (for me at least) if you know exactly which arrows misbehave so you can shake those normally. Otherwise the "normal" ones won't register. Other songs have arrows just as close & the behavior is normal. Pretty bizarre that this bug is song-specific.
I didn't have much trouble with stubborn arrows until I "upgraded" to 3.1! It was a major issue on the Touch but not on my 3GS. I don't have a 3G. With 3.1, both the Touch (2nd Gen) & my original iPhone are unplayable. 3GS is playable & works quite well for probably 95%+ of the notes in a song. It used to fail quite a bit less often than it does now. Now I have to play about 5 times to get thru a song without a drop where before I could play 5 times before it would fail at all. SUCKS! – bufulo, on September 12, 2009 21:48
A comment on the idea "enhanced challenges" in Tapulous:
Yeah, the song name would be really nice on the results of the challenges. You can only find out by clicking on it, which makes you play the challenge again. Maybe it was actually designed that way on purpose?
It would also be nice if deleting a challenge after playing worked. Right now you can swipe & then delete, but it usually comes back the next time you view that page.
No idea why 3.1 would work better for you but worse for me though. It's dropping both taps & arrows & quite a bit worse than before already. I may try re-updating the OS again since that helped with 3.0.1. I tried that once already & it made no difference at all. At least I should be able to roll back to 3.0.1 if that doesn't help.
I had to play Discipline 4 or 5 times to get a game without a drop. You've beat me online before & I'm sure you will again. By the way, I don't have the NIN version but TTR2 did have Discipline. Must be a different tap track though because your original challenge was quite a bit lower score.
It think it would be fun to go into some sort of chat room & gab for a while, then be able to pick a song & create a private room to play in! We could have an "old farts"-only room! Are you an old fart or does that only apply to men? :) – bufulo, on September 12, 2009 21:39
